Redline radar detector upgrades to ‘EX’

By | September 10th, 2017|Categories: AV Hub|

We always start stories on radar detectors with the following important disclaimer: radar detectors are illegal to use in all Australian states other than WA. If you are in the eastern states of Australia it is likely that the police in your state are using radar detector detectors (RDDs). See a further disclaimer at the end of this article.

Neltronics has announced a major upgrade for its bestselling Redline radar detector — the new Redline EX. This is, they say, the same old Redline under the hood, with its dual antenna design for extreme long range detection, and they claim it to be “completely undetectable by RDDs (Radar Detector Detectors)”.… Read the full article

Crossroads

By | September 10th, 2017|Categories: Oswalds Mill Audio|Tags: |

We’re at a very interesting point in audio right now. Music reproduction is at a crossroads. From now on people will be consuming music either virtually and digitally (streaming), or  physically and analog (records). There will be no more digital, physical formats in the future, no more CD’s, SACD’s, or other supposedly superior digital formats on disc. CD production has fallen off a cliff. Streaming has essentially killed off the physical sales of music in the digital domain. The irony, of course, is that the one hundred year old technology of vinyl records, which has not really changed much since its inception, has prevailed over “Perfect Sound Forever” ™.… Read the full article

Schmidt's Symphonic Splendor in Hi-Rez

By | September 10th, 2017|Categories: Stereophile|

Semyon Bychkov and the Vienna Philharmonic’s splendid recording of Franz Schmidt’s Symphony No.2, recently released by Sony in CD and hi-rez formats, is dazzling in its pastoral splendor. The music is lush and liquid, with one gorgeous orchestral effusion after the other. Which is not to say that Schmidt’s ideas, as verdant as they be, flow organically in a manner that creates a coherent whole.

Truth be told, the Second Symphony tends to careen from idea to idea, and from one key change to another, sometimes without apparent regard for the big picture.… Read the full article

Picture Sunday – JH Audio Lola

By | September 10th, 2017|Categories: Headfonia|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

Disclaimer: The star of this weeks’ picture Sunday is Jerry Harvey Audio’s Lola. This post is a part of our Picture Sunday series.

Jerry Harvey doesn’t do things like the bigger part in this field. He does not represent the common audiophile, but rather the guitar burning, hotel-room trashing rockstars on stage. Jerry Harvey looks at his products in a different way, he thinks outside the box and designs in ears like nobody else has before. He knows his creations are special.Read the full article

Placebo / Deaf Havana

What better way to kick off an evening watching Placebo, than with a band blending emo sentiment with powerful alt-rock riffs? Though their instruments are drenched in 90s and early 2000s tones, Deaf Havana’s lyrics, not to mention the soaring vocals of front man James Veck-Gilodi, toy with a kind cathartic explosion of angst that somehow feels hopeful by the end of each song.… Read the full article
