Look what’s selling in 2018

By | November 2nd, 2018|Categories: Audiomatters|

Discogs latest round of data on what is selling makes for telling viewing. Coltrane still doin’ it. As are  Floyd, with DSOTM, The Wall and Wish You Were Here all in the top 6. Guess there’s an insatiable demand for some old vinyl, and some old music on vinyl too. Not sure of the demographics but this is a topic worthy of study. Since the most expensive record this quarter was the $13k paid for a Japanese promo copy of Ummagumma, I suspect it’s fair to say that those with a certain level of disposable income predominate.… Read the full article

Bob Dylan’s “More Blood, More Tracks The Bootleg Series Vol. 14” Review + Exclusive Interview With Co-Producer Steve Berkowitz

By | November 2nd, 2018|Categories: Analog planet|

1974’s Blood on the Tracks (Columbia PC 33235) was for many at the time a “Bob Dylan’s back” album. He was back on Columbia Records after leaving for David Geffen’s Asylum for a pair of not particularly well-received at the time albums backed by The Band. But more importantly Dylan was back in the more familiar role as folk-poet and story teller—though spinning more deeply felt tales from various points of view that many observers wrongly thought were personal chronicles.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Solo: A Star Wars Story is simply a terrific movie. Fans of Harrison Ford’s timeless take on the flawed-but-gallant smuggler should rightly rejoice as Han has been handily rejuvenated by newcomer Alden Ehrenreich in this well-conceived “origin” story. We learn all of the things we never knew we wanted to know about him, like where he got his name, his furry co-pilot, and of course the keys to the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy back when it was shiny and new.

Baby Huey: The Living Legend

Baby Huey: The Living Legend

When music labels search for unreleased tapes connected with memorable albums, the results can be less than scintillating: an inferior take here, a poorly-recorded demo there, perhaps some performances that should have stayed on the shelves. However, Run Out Groove’s release of Baby Huey’s The Living Legend plus a disc of extras tells a much different story, confirming why an obscure but classic-sounding soul title from 1971 was a hit, but also affirming that the vault-digging was well worth the effort.… Read the full article
