Rega Rebounds in Musical Surroundings: The Nova III Phono Stage

By | February 6th, 2019|Categories: Positive Feedback|Tags: , , , |

Hey Positive People!

The last time we spoke, I was in the midst of bouncing between two rigs set up in my basement—one using several on-loan items:  the Modwright PH150 with the surrounding components that completed it (PS150 power supply; VPI Prime Scout; LTA Ultralinear amplifier and Microzotl amp; Daedalus Audio Athena v.2 loudspeakers; and a complete set of WyWires cables/interconnects), and the other stereo setup was my own personal Rega rig, which includes the Planar 6 turntable with Neo Power Supply Unit; Rega Exacta 2 MM cartridge; Rega Brio integrated amplifier, Rega Apollo CD player; and Spendor D4 speakers (you can read all about it in the earlier January article HERE).… Read the full article

iFi iPurifier 3.0 and Mercury 3.0 Review

By | February 6th, 2019|Categories: Dagogo|Tags: , |

Earlier this year I wrote a piece contrasting a pair of USB devices that respectively market themselves as specialists in re-clocking, re-generating and recovering. As it happens iFi products have been making a bit of a splash and in writing up one of their portable DACs earlier this year I became more familiar with the product line learning of their entry in the above category, the iPurifier 3.0 and its accompanying Mercury 3.0 USB cable.

Necessity being the mother of invention, my intrigue and desire to explore this product came about as I grappled with the hard facts and numbers of available power sockets in my 12-port international/industrial surge protected power strip.

THE VERDICT

This highly affordable Q Acoustics 5.1 package offers big, warm, dynamic stereo sound from compact towers, and good movie sound with or without the included sub.

Q Acoustics is a relatively new British loudspeaker manufacturer who has made a goodly amount of noise in the value/performance speaker arena for a dozen years now.

Sonus Faber Palladio

Italy-based Sonus Faber is slowing working its way into my short list of favorites in high end audio. Our listening sessions to the flagship Aida and all sorted products from the diverse palate of loudspeakers creations have always been richly rewarding. Now the brand is launching two new lines of custom install products (Level 5 and Level 6) under the Palladio Collection to compliment existing options or create new ones.

New Music Review: Delta Raga, By The Indo-Canadian Slide Project

Music Review by Noam Bronstein

Writing reviews can be a tedious task, but it’s a pleasure and an honour to write about this unique music project, which came together last year in what must have been a massive effort. It was spearheaded and organized by my friend and neighbour, Michael Oesch. Michael is a fine musician, a songwriter, and a recording engineer – he has a very cool studio in his house, and owns his own digital media company. He also seems to have more instruments than any musician I’ve met.… Read the full article

Allnic Audio ZL-5000 Power Cable

By | February 6th, 2019|Categories: Audiophillia|

IMG_2172.JPG

Designer Kang Su Park of Korea’s Allnic Audio is an obvious deep thinker and top tinkerer. We recently published a review of his H-1202 tubed phono stage. It was a marvellous piece of design with superb sound. Park also designs cables. When David Beetles from Allnic distributor Hammertone Audio asked Audiophilia to review the H-1202, he slipped into the conversation that a loom of Allnic Audio cables was also available for review. Cables—discussing or writing about them—do not scare me. Some publications won’t touch them.… Read the full article
