By | February 10th, 2019|Categories: AV Hub|

If it’s too good to be true… Words by Steve Henderson.

Note: This piece first appeared in Australian Guitar #131Subscribe to our print edition here!

The Cort catalogue covers such a diverse range of electric (and acoustic) guitars that it’s hard to know where to start. But across this breadth of styles and facilities, there are a couple of common denominators: useability and value.

Even entry-level Cort instruments have pro features that defy the ticket price. So, it makes sense to look at one of those more affordable instruments and, along with it, the practise amp that comprises the other half of a great value package.Read the full article

J Marks System fall 2016

The essential sound of this system is determined first by the loudspeakers, prototypes called Esperanto Parolantos. That’s something of a pun, in that it means “Esperanto Speakers.” (Esperanto, from the audio company I started after leaving Stereophile magazine.)

Mike Zisserson designed the Esperanto Parolanto loudspeaker while taking into account my “Wish List” of desired characteristics and capabilities. In that list I tried to express both in technical terms and in musical terms what I believe a music lover’s relatively affordable two-way non-mini monitor loudspeaker should sound like.… Read the full article

TRPTK Music Label

By | February 10th, 2019|Categories: Positive Feedback|Tags: , |

Record labels usually focuses on promoting the music itself, forgetting that it is closely related to sound. Every now and then, companies are created that try to do something about it. One of the newest is the Dutch company TRPTK, which is the following text is about.

Let’s be honest: there are many record labels and new ones are coming almost every day. This of course involves an incredible egalitarianisation of recordings—today you can arrange a home recording studio for just a few thousand dollars.… Read the full article

JIB Boaacoustic Digital Cables

Wolfgang Kemper, guest contributor from HiFi Statement

The Boaacoustic cables’ colorful unique design quickly catches your eye. This is an advantage when you want to stand out in the wide selection of cables on the market. Just what qualities are hidden beneath the colorful exteriors?

Oh no! No more cables! That was my first reaction as a former sales colleague introduced me to the JIB-Boaacoustic cable assortment while I was visiting the 2018 High-End trade show in Munich. I had already taken notice of their impressive booth.… Read the full article

Analog Corner #110

By | February 10th, 2019|Categories: Analog planet|

Reviewed this month: Kuzma’s Stabi Reference turntable

A young reader who’s been a Stereophile subscriber since junior high, and an “Analog Corner” fan for nearly eight years, sent me a copy of “A Vinyl Farewell,” by David Browne, which appeared in the October 4, 1991 issue of Entertainment Weekly. In the article, Browne kisses the LP goodbye, lovingly, nostalgically, and not at all dismissively. Accompanying the article is a photo, perhaps unintentionally suggestive, of an unusually large stylus floating above a record and about to make contact with a hairball of dust.

Here’s one way the Pixel 4 might catch up with the newest iPhones

By | February 10th, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

We're expecting a Google Pixel 4 at some point later this year, but so far we haven't heard too many rumors about it. According to code recently added to the open source foundation of Android, we've got a hint of one potential upgrade: better dual-SIM support.

While the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 3 can technically support two SIMs through eSIM technology, it's not the more advanced version of the tech available in many other handsets, including the latest iPhones.… Read the full article
