Everybody knows…

By | March 31st, 2019|Categories: DAR|Tags: |

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded.
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed.
Everybody knows the war is over.
Everybody knows the good guys lost.
Everybody knows the fight was fixed.
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich.
That’s how it goes.
Everybody knows.

The Old Outweighs the New in Youth Fountain's Freshman Release

Youth Fountain (formerly Bedroom Talk) is a 2-piece emotional pop-punk outfit from Vancouver. After a long time, the band has finally released their first full-length. And I’ll be the first to say, it may have not been worth the wait.

Letters to Our Former Selves is a collection of 12 songs, comprised of five new songs and seven songs that had been released before the album’s release. With the initial release of Grinding Teeth (later re-released when they changed their name from Bedroom Talk to Youth Fountain, as a self-titled EP), a short EP, in 2017, I’ve been aching for a full-release from the group.… Read the full article

The Spring Music Mix

By | March 31st, 2019|Categories: Audiostream|

Where my Winter Mix was an obscure selection intended to be enjoyed in isolation while shrouded in headphones and framed by frosted windows, the spring season finds me emerging from my musical shell with a more social selection – fresh like newly grown flowers or a pair of recently purchased sneakers.

Star spangled glamour: the mission to make space travel cooler than ever before

By | March 31st, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

In all of human history, never have the faraway wonders of the galaxy felt closer to us than they do today, thanks to the ongoing advances in spacefaring technologies that science continues to make. Why, then, should there be any need to make space travel cool and sexy?

First, let’s be clear about what we mean by sexy. Simply put: sexy sells. Whether it’s soft drinks, skateboards, or hair straighteners, being able to make the idea of something in some way attractive is what makes people want to buy into it.

So when we talk about the prospect of space exploration, that’s clearly something you can’t go and pick up from the supermarket, or order through an online store.

For the majority of the public, space doesn’t matter much beyond being a romantic backdrop for a kiss under the stars.… Read the full article

How to stream 3D-printed 45rpm singles

By | March 31st, 2019|Categories: AV Hub|

A new Australian venture is combining two key technologies — music streaming and 3D printing — to deliver a world-first 3D music streaming service.

GROOVE-STREAM’s website and apps for iOS and Android allow you to select tracks like any other music service, but instead of playing or downloading them, users receive a OBL or STJ file which will allow most brands of 3D printers to lay down a single-sided 7-inch plastic disc with the chosen song etched into a groove which will play on any turntable.Read the full article

Clearaudio Innovation Basic Turntable | Review

By | March 31st, 2019|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |

For us analogoholics, you can never have enough LPs or turntables to play them on! For the last few years, I have been blessed with the company of an AMG Viella V12 turntable. It’s big, its fast, and generates  a sound that I have not been able to surpass with any digital setup to date. To change things up, I decided to put it on ice for a couple of months and listen to something smaller and simpler to see how it could fit the bill.… Read the full article

Facebook looking to restrict livestreams, open to more regulation

By | March 31st, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

It's not been an easy couple of years for Facebook in terms of user privacy and data security and everything else, but the giant social network seems determined to start sorting out at least some of its problems.

TechCrunch reports on an open letter published by Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, in which she says the platform is "exploring restrictions" for limiting who can launch livestreams.

The letter comes in response to the terror attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, which was streamed live over Facebook by the perpetrators.… Read the full article

Core Power Technologies Equi=Core 1800 | Mini-Review

By | March 31st, 2019|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , |

Over the years, I have had the privilege of hearing some of the best power conditioners out there. My view on the topic is simple: a good power conditioner is the ultimate “three-for” for audiophiles as it helps in all three areas of the frequency range: bass, midrange, and treble. Mark Shifter from Core Power Technologies (website) was in town a while back and I met up with him and he asked me if I wanted to review their big conditioner, the Core Power Technologies Equi=Core 1800.… Read the full article
