Rumors surrounding the launch date for Apple's AirPods 2 have been coming in so thick and fast that it’s been hard to keep up with them all. The latest suggests that it could hit shelves as early as March 29, just days after Apple is rumored to announce its subscription news service.

An interview with Geoff Matthews

By | March 3rd, 2019|Categories: AV Hub|

“The way I do business is not about having a filing cabinet full of brands. I feel for us to do a really good job we have to focus on a group of products, and then go and work really hard at growing those brands… We’re in a positive place, we’ve got a business that’s structured to do all that business. Good brands, and good people.”

Geoff Matthews, Managing Director of Convoy International after more than 50 years with the company, passed away on February 28th 2019 in Engadine NSW, due to unexpected complications from a recent illness.Read the full article

It’s been interesting to see Fender Musical Instrument Corp juggle its many different guitar brands. In recent years, it appears they’ve really hit the right mix: Fender makes… Well… Fenders.

If you want guitar with a hot‑rodded Fender feel, you look to Charvel where you’ll get things like Floyd Rose tremolos and humbucking pickups on otherwise pretty Strat-like form factors.Read the full article

Australian Hi-Fi Magazine – 50th Anniversary

By | March 3rd, 2019|Categories: AV Hub|

It all began at the 1968 Hi-Fi Show in the Hotel Russell, Bloomsbury, London.

I was sales manager at Mullard Electronics Limited where work was proceeding to mass-produce solid-state products for industry. Previously the company had built its reputation for making valves (vacuum tubes) used in radio communication during the war and, increasingly, in post-war domestic radios and audio amplifiers.

At the Show, listening to British brands such as Leak and comparing them to amplifiers from America (such as Marantz) roused my interest in high-fidelity music reproduction in the home.… Read the full article

By | March 3rd, 2019|Categories: AV Hub|

Expert review and test of the FiiO Q1 MkII Portable DAC/Headphone Amplifier by Australian Hi-Fi Magazine. Free pdf download included.

I had been planning to review the FiiO Q1 portable DAC and headphone amplifier, but before quite getting to it, the Chinese firm launched a successor.
