New Canon RF 85mm f1.2 Fast Prime Has ‘BR’ Optics

By | May 12th, 2019|Categories: AV Hub|

The new Canon RF 85mm f1.2 L series prime is designed to make the most of the mirrorless camera configuration so its optical construction employs Canon’s new ‘Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics’ (BR) element – as introduced with the EF 35mm f1.4L II USM – which is designed to deliver, among other things, superior correction for chromatic aberrations. The BR optical element is located in the lens so that it refracts blue light between the concave and convex lenses. Canon says that this arrangement enables the convergence of the entire wavelength of light to one point, resulting in higher image quality from the centre to the edges of an image.… Read the full article

Impressions:  My Audio Oasis! Awards from AXPONA 2019 – Part the First

A glance backwards, and AXPONA 2019 fades into history. It’s already being overlaid by Munich 2019, which occurs too quickly after the event in Chicago. Then again, the calendar for high-end audio events has been chaotic for many years no, and shows no sign of getting better any time soon.

Frankly, I thought it a great show, one of the best in years.… Read the full article

Audeze LCD-GX: Audeze Gets its Audiophile Game Face On

By | May 12th, 2019|Categories: Innerfidelity|

Just when many thought the Audeze gaming headphone experience couldn’t get any better thanks to their Mobius planar-magnetic cans, the company goes all audiophile and breaks out an $899 USD version for the top-tier line in the newly announced LCD-GX.

Slipping the leash at High End in Munich, the LCD-GX is being touted by Audeze as “the world’s first high-end purist gaming headphones” with an open-back design featuring the company’s patented Fluxor magnets and razor-thin Uniforce planar diaphragms with drivers “two to four times the size found in other gaming headphones.” Audeze claims “unprecedented sound quality with clear voice chat for the serious audiophile gamer” as well, so with all this hype I’m expecting a big step up from the Mobius experience – which is one I heartily enjoy, and that Grover Neville reviewed for InnerFidelity HERE.… Read the full article

Miles Davis’ ‘Kind of Blue’ Stunningly Good in Atmos

By | May 12th, 2019|Categories: Sound + Vision|

Now here was a Munich High End show demo that could have gone either way: Miles Davis’ classic jazz albums Kind of Blue (1959) and Sketches of Spain (1960) re-mixed for Dolby Atmos. Would the producers of this bold effort maintain the sonic integrity of the original recordings, or would they succumb to the worst impulses of 5.1-remix era, surrounding listeners in a swirl of brass, with Bill Evans’ piano raining down from overhead?

High End Munich 2019: CD is The New CD, Wireless Systems and the Super Integrated

By | May 12th, 2019|Categories: Audiostream|

I doubt by now there is any need for me to tell you that High End Munich is the biggest audio trade fair because it is always sold out and there are always over 500 exhibitors… But! Unless you go there, you might not grasp how, as you walk the four enormous halls and three endless atriums, you see and hear where specialist audio is now (the current state of the art) and where it is going (the dominant technological and aesthetic trends).

Everything we still want to see in the OnePlus 7 Pro

By | May 12th, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

We're expecting to see the OnePlus 7 Pro launch on May 14, alongside the non-pro OnePlus 7, at OnePlus' community launch event. There's a lot we already know, thanks to a combination of OnePlus' slow drip-feed of information, and a plethora of leaks, but there's still a lot we've yet to find out.

The big question mark lies over the 'Pro' suffix – OnePlus series usually consist of a standard phone, like the OnePlus 6, then a 'T' variant later in the year, like the OnePlus 6T.… Read the full article
