Camera drone company DJI is moving into the actioncam market and has launched a highly-featured model designed to compete with GoPro’s products. It makes sense, as the new Osmo Action incorporates a number of DJI’s camera drone technologies, including advanced image stabilisation. The ultra-compact camera is dustproof, waterproof down to a depth of 11 metres and shockproofed to withstand a drop of up to 1.5 metres. It can also operate in subzero temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius. An optional housing extends the underwater shooting depth down to 60 metres.… Read the full article
I have not yet experienced the music-playback capabilities of CanEver’s ZeroUno D/A processor. But Art Dudley has. And he praised it at some length in the April 2017 Stereophile: “By the end of its stay in my home, it had pushed virtually all of my Happy buttons — not by doing everything I could ask of it, but by having a point of view that aligned with my own.”
CanEver’s ZeroUno original DAC caught my attention because it is from a small Italian company (I like small European companies) with a sharp-brained, designer-engineer named Mario Canever, who, I thought, might have an aesthetic-engineering viewpoint not too dissimilar from my own.… Read the full article
Our good friends at the well-known DSD downloading site, NativeDSD.com, attended Munich 2019. During that time, they did a handful of video interviews with some key industry figures, which provide an excellent look at, and feel for, what Munich is all about. It also gives our readers an opportunity to hear more from companies that are carrying on significant development work in high-end audio…especially in the realm of DSD audio.
NativeDSD.com offered us the chance to republish their YouTube video links and accompanying text here at PF, which kind offer we immediately accepted.… Read the full article
We haven’t had a traditional ‘format war’ in the audio and AV market for a good few years. The closest thing is perhaps the splitting of brands between those that are supporting Amazon’s Alexa voice control (dominant in the US market) and those that have gone with Google Assistant (more dominant in Europe and Australia, where it launched ahead of Alexa).
Google seems to have the edge in ease of set-up and simple useability, but Alexa does have a significant advantage in allowing specific skills to be added for any given brand of equipment.… Read the full article
With the ongoing demise of big studio flash systems, Profoto’s decision to move into making compact, portable lighting now looks nothing less than inspired. The original A1 on-camera flash has been very successful, but it does now have rivals so Profoto has moved things up a gear with the new A1X model.
Profoto says that the A1X “has a little more of everything that made its predecessor a success” and this runs to a total of 30 updates, including a more powerful battery, faster recycling, more wireless channels and a revised display with higher resolution read-outs.… Read the full article
High End Munich. My favorite show of the year! Why is that you say? Well, it has all the brands that really matter, all the product launches, it’s not too crowded and you get to see all your audio friends again. Oh and to get there we have 700 kilometers of unlimited German Autobahn. The pics in this report are from the gear that really caught our attention at the High End show. It’s not realistic to cover all the personal audio gear, and it’s a complete mission impossible to cover everything
We probably should have seen this coming. The Golden State Warriors have absolutely dominated the NBA Western Conference Finals against the Portland Trail Blazers. They have one giant foot in the NBA Finals – surely they can't be stopped now, can they? You can find out by watching a Warriors vs Trail Blazers live stream of every game with this handy guide for how to watch from anywhere on Earth.
I have to admit that Boston-based Sonner Audio was unfamiliar to me until I read colleague Andy Quint’s 2018 AXPONA report. He was impressed with the potential he heard under arduous show conditions (“Satisfying orchestral weight and timbral nuance were evident even on a brief audition”). Such audio qualities have always been near and dear to my heart, so I was eager to have a listen to this new kid on the block. Sonner Audio is led by president Gunny Surya—a music and audio enthusiast with a background in industrial engineering, a Master’s in business, and 20 years of experience …… Read the full article
