Review: Tortuga Audio’s LDR3.V25 Passive Preamp And TPB.V1 Tube Preamp Buffer

Review by Noam Bronstein

Transparency – if there ever was an overused word in home hi-fi circles, this one might take top prize. But I’ve noticed a decline in its usage over the years, too. As electronics (and speakers) have improved over time, transparency has become a basic expectation: the days of euphonic and unresolving components is largely a thing of the past. In high-end circles, harmonic distortions today tend to be more a facet of room interactions, poor recordings, and other factors that aren’t in the equipment manufacturer’s control.… Read the full article

AMD Next Horizon Gaming E3 2019 livestream: How to watch the GPU keynote

By | June 7th, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

AMD may have just had a killer Computex 2019, but there's more. Team Red is going to be at E3 2019, with a press conference of its own. At AMD's Next Horizon Gaming E3 event, we're expecting to get a glimpse at what AMD Navi graphics cards can do.

We've seen some speculation that up to five AMD Navi graphics cards could be coming, but we're not sure all of them will be present at this livestream event.

However, unlike many of AMD's conferences, the Next Horizon Gaming E3 event likely won't be super technical, as it has Geoff Keighley presenting.… Read the full article

T.H.E. Show Preparations at the Hilton Long Beach

By | June 7th, 2019|Categories: Stereophile|

It’s Thursday afternoon at the Hilton Long Beach in Long Beach, California, and signs of T.H.E. Show, which opens on Friday, June 7, at noon, are everywhere in evidence.

Prior to the official opening, I wandered into a couple of rooms, including the one sponsored by Audiogen Distributors, above. There I found intriguing speakers from the Greek company Tune, electronics from Japan’s WAVAC—and a few items that will surely have disappeared by the time the room opens for business. In another room, sponsored by Alaia Audio, speaker designer Richard Vandersteen listened intently as Brad O’Toole carefully tugged his speakers to various locations.… Read the full article

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers: The Best of Everything – The Definitive Career Spanning Hits Collection: 1976-2016

Performance
Sound

When Tom Petty unexpectedly passed away in October 2017 following a triumphant 40th anniversary tour with The Heartbreakers that had wrapped up barely a week earlier in his adopted hometown of Los Angeles, the outpouring of grief on an international scale was beyond palpable. Petty’s loss at age 66 was a gut-punch, to be sure, especially considering the successive sonic triple threat of 2010’s Mojo, 2014’s Hypnotic Eye, and 2016’s Mudcrutch 2.

T+A elektroakustik Talis S 300 Loudspeaker

T+A elektroakustik is a major high-end presence in Europe with 120 dealers in Germany alone. Deliberately and incrementally, T+A has been working on achieving greater visibility in markets worldwide. Central to this effort for 15 years has been James Shannon, T+A’s Export Sales Manager, who visited me briefly last December to confirm that the estimable Talis S 300 loudspeakers were performing as they were supposed to. One nuance is worth passing along. Not once in the several hours we spent together did Shannon refer to his employer as T and A—as he probably should, as that’s shorthand for Theory and …… Read the full article

LOS ANGELES (PTA) — This year’s T.H.E. SHOW 2019 is bigger, better, and already on track to be the most newsworthy yet. Lots of exciting manufacturer debuts are taking place at this year’s show, and we at Part-Time Audiophile are committed to bringing you the most extensive coverage of what’s NEW and out-of-this-world in our little Hi-Fi universe.… Read the full article
