Picture Sunday: Audeze LCD-i3

By | September 14th, 2019|Categories: Headfonia|Tags: , , , , , |

In this post we’re taking a first look at the new LCD-i3 by Audeze. It’s their newest planar magnetic In Ear.

Disclaimer: This is part of our Picture Sunday series, where we give first impressions on new gear we have in the queue. If you want to check the previous ones, you can do so here.

My relationship with Audeze products goes back to when I started to get soaked into the higher end headphone scene. I’ve been a lover of good audio long before I’ve been able to dip my toes into the waters of less affordable gear.… Read the full article

Rocky Mountain Audio Fest 2019: Loudspeakers

Everyone loves a cliffhanger. And as I flew into Denver for RMAF’s latest installment I was about to find out how this one was going to shake out. Specifically, the change of venue, and the transposition of show dates from mid-October to early September (this year only), elements that are fraught with all kinds of risks—and potential rewards. The brand-spanking-new venue, the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center, certainly provided a distinct adjustment from the homey if increasingly ramshackle Denver Tech Center.… Read the full article

Klipsch Launches Behind the Screen Pro Cinema Home

By | September 14th, 2019|Categories: Sound + Vision|

You can usually tell how popular – or good – a demo is at CEDIA by how steady and long the line is, and on the last day of the show, when many integrators had already left Denver to return home, one of the booth’s that was still drawing a steady crowd for its surround demonstration was Klipsch’s sound room where the company debuted its new Pro Cinema Home surround system. And the experience was definitely worth the wait!

You Call that a Sub?! THIS is a Sub!

By | September 14th, 2019|Categories: Sound + Vision|

In a classic game of total one-upmanship, Ascendo Immersive Audio brought its SMSG 32 Subwoofer to CEDIA, with a immense 32-inch driver that basically called out all the other “large” subs at the show and told them to make it a sandwich. And the crazy thing? This is only the third biggest sub the company manufacturers!

Well Pleased AV, Vinnie Rossi, Qln, Innuos, Swisscables | RMAF 2019

Well Pleased AV, a distributor based in Virginia, immediately scored extra points for the diagonal set-up in their exhibit room at RMAF 2019. When I’ve lived in a house where I had the space to do it, I did. Diagonal room set-ups for your audio system result in a magnificently deep soundstage, one that’s so addictive that it’s hard to return to the ol’ put-it-against-the-wall ethos.

Well Pleased AV hosted Vinnie Rossi’s debut of the L2i-SE integrated amplifier ($18,995), which consists of a Class A preamplifier design that can use 2A3, 45, 300B, PX4, 101D and other 4-pin directly-heated triodes along with a Class AB MOSFET power amplifier that puts out 100 wpc at 8 ohms and 175 wpc into 4.… Read the full article

Microsoft’s dual-screen Surface device may use liquid-powered hinges

By | September 14th, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

Rumors and patent leaks related to Microsoft’s still fabled foldable, dual-screen Surface device have been swirling around since 2018, with one even hinting at a 2020 release of a foldable Microsoft Surface with Android app compatibility. And yet such an actual device still has to be announced or revealed.

With Microsoft’s October 2 event mere weeks away, however, during which the Redmond behemoth is anticipated to release new Surface hardware as well as some Surface accessories, it’s unsurprising that a slew of fresh leaks has, well, surfaced.

German online publication, WindowsUnited, for one, has recently spotted a new patent, which shows that Microsoft could utilize liquid-powered hinges on their rumored foldable Surface devices.… Read the full article

Elac Launches All-New Debut Reference Speaker With Andrew Jones – RMAF 2019

Elac Debut Reference speakers

To hear Andrew Jones recount the starting of Elac’s American operation and foray into affordable speakers, it’s like listening to the character Quint from the movie Jaws (1975) tell us all about his battle scars.

The Debut series started out as Andrew Jones’ project to continue doing what he had done for Pioneer, but now under the Elac label. After some time, and great success, it was time to revise the Debut series ever so slightly to 2.0 status, and add twenty dollars to the MSRP.… Read the full article
