Amazon really isn't messing around. November is here and the Apple AirPods Pro price has received its first significant discount despite being sold out at most online retailers. Who says you need to wait for the Black Friday deals?

Leica SL2 Is Prettier.. And More Powerful

By | November 6th, 2019|Categories: AV Hub|

Both a styling makeover and a significant performance upgrade have gone into Leica’s second-generation full-35mm L mount mirrorless camera. The SL2 looks a whole lot softer than its overtly ‘Germanic’ predecessor and, consequently, seems smaller although the two cameras are roughly the same size. The new model is, however, lighter (by nearly 100 grams) and has significantly improved ergonomics based around a reshaped handgrip and a new GUI. The top and bottom covers are machined aluminium components (rather than diecast) for added strength, covering a magnesium alloy chassis and with upgraded weather sealing (now up to IP54 standard).… Read the full article

Apple’s iOS 13.3 public beta is here to fix some annoying issues with your iPhone

By | November 6th, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

Apple just released iOS 13.2 at the end of October, but it's already moving forward with what's next. The company has just launched the public beta build of iOS 13.3, and it's coming with some performance improvements as well as two new settings, 9to5Mac reports.

The iOS 13.3 beta appears to fix some of the iOS 13 problems we had when we found RAM management to be killing our background apps, though it remains to be seen to what degree and how widely that fix applies.… Read the full article

Hell freezes over as Microsoft Edge comes to Linux

By | November 6th, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

Microsoft’s revamped Edge browser (based on Chromium) is officially inbound for Linux, although quite when it will arrive isn’t clear – and equally, quite what Linux fans will make of it is similarly opaque.

The long-rumored move was confirmed over at Microsoft’s Ignite conference, which is currently underway in Orlando, Florida, with a slide shown that listed Linux as one of the available platforms for Chromium-based Edge.

Sadly no information was given on exactly how the implementation of the browser will work for Linux; all we know is that it’s inbound.… Read the full article

Goo Goo Dolls: Diary Of A Miracle Worker

By | November 6th, 2019|Categories: AV Hub|

Note: This piece first appeared in Australian Guitar #135Subscribe to our print edition here!

On the booming and bubbly Miracle Pill, the Goo Goo Dolls are a far cry from the scuzzy rockers and lovelorn tragics that sang their pain out in “Iris”.

Words by Sarah Comey.

Whenever a band makes it past ten records in their discography, you tend to see one of three things happen.

The first is, depressingly, the most common: the integrity suffers, the quality wanes, and the records continuously churn out every few years as an increasingly desperate attempt for the artist to stay relevant and squeeze whatever pittance they can from Spotifiers yearning for their glory days. … Read the full article

This is the cheapest gaming PC we’ve seen before Black Friday you’ll actually want

By | November 6th, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

PC gaming is an expensive hobby now matter how you slice it, but HP and Walmart are helping to alleviate that harsh reality a bit with this early Black Friday gaming PC deal.

As part of the early Walmart Black Friday sale, the two are selling a variation on the HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop that is no longer available on HP's own online store, but is cheaper and more powerful than the most affordable model that HP sells right now.

It's rare to find complete gaming PC systems – with the Windows 10 operating system included – for this cheap.… Read the full article

EMIA Re-Visioned Quad ESL 57 Loudspeakers, Garrard 301 Turntable, Schroeder and Schick Tonearms, Made-from-Scratch EMIA Phono Cartridge, and Everything Else

By | November 6th, 2019|Categories: Stereophile|

Look at the photo. What you see is a re-imagining of the original Quad ESL 57s by Dave Slagle of EMIA (Experience Music Intact Audio). The only thing that remains from the original Quads are the PVC stator parts rebuilt to original standards by Wayne Picquet of Quads Unlimited in Longwood, Florida. The cabinets are made from solid 12/4 tiger maple with walnut accents and built by Andy Armstrong. These reinvented Quads are bi-amped using two push-pull 300B tube amps, which are mounted in the loudspeaker’s base and connected to the Quad panels through Slagle-wound step-up transformers.… Read the full article
