Accuphase is a smooth operator

By Lam Seng Fatt

Another reviewer had bought the Accuphase E-470, so I ended up reviewing the lower model, the E-370 which is a 100-watter integrated amplifier.

Victor Pheh of Hi-Fi Creations Trading delivered the E-370 to my house and it took the two of us to carry it from the boot of his car. Accuphase products are heavy and very well made.

Press a button and the panel below the two meters will flip down slowly to reveal lots of buttons.… Read the full article

Accuphase C-3850 Preamplifier and P-7300 Power Amplifier

By | April 20th, 2017|Categories: Absolute Sound|Tags: , |

Accuphase C-3850 Preamplifier and P-7300 Power Amplifier

The Accuphase brand was originally marketed under the company name of Kensonic Laboratory, Inc. in 1972. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, the company changed its name to Accuphase Laboratory, Inc. The name Accuphase was chosen as a merging of the words accurate and phase. One of the basic ideologies of the company has been quality over quantity, from the first C-200 preamplifier and P-300 amplifier to the latest products under evaluation—the C-3850 preamplifier ($43,500) and P-7300 power amplifier ($32,000). First introduced in the U.S.… Read the full article

Accuphase DP-950/DC-950 Super Audio CD Player

Accuphase DP-950/DC-950 Super Audio CD Player

It’s been thirty years last year from the moment when Accuphase presented to the world their own Compact Disc Player. The two-box DP-80/DC-81 system premiered in July 1986 and immediately became a flagship player for this brand. The CD transport was designed in a way it would have been today, ie. with utmost attention to the power supply circuit and knowledge of the impact of vibration on sound. Equally important was its physical construction—DP-80 weighed 15 kg, which is more than most integrated players made at the time.… Read the full article

Keeping it very simple, yet exquisitely curated.

Less is more.

I’m a firm believer in that credo. Especially living in one of the most expensive cities in the world for real estate. No, not New York or Tokyo: Vancouver. Space is at a premium when $1,950 gets you 570 sq.ft. So I’m going to make the case for what city dwellers could look to for a truly high-end system that does not require an entire room just to house it.… Read the full article

Top Of The Line HiFi Gear From Yamaha Announced

By | August 25th, 2018|Categories: Wall of sound|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

Well, well. First it was Technics, and now Yamaha….

Back in the 1970’s, Yamaha was a formidable player in the audio world. And ever since, really. The lower and mid-priced gear gained huge market acceptance. Some of their higher end electronics were made in partnership with Accuphase, while their top turntables like the GT-750 and GT-2000 were collaborations with Micro-Seiki. This TOTL stuff from the 70’s and 80’s is still sought after today. And the trickle down effect was pretty good too.… Read the full article
