Luxman Digital Player, Pre and Power Amplification, Aurender Server, J. Sikora Turntable and Tonearm, Kuzma Tonearm, Koetsu, Ortofon and Grado Cartridges, DeVore Fidelity Speakers, Transparent Cables, Box Racks

By | November 3rd, 2019|Categories: Stereophile|

I’ve known DeVore Fidelity’s John DeVore a long time. Luxman America President Jeff Sigmund, too. I’ve reviewed a few of their products—DeVore and Luxman. These guys are salt of the earth. They’ve got tradition, they love music, they have a desire to create, a desire to serve.

Not to get all lofty here, but it’s good to know there are still true artists and great people at the core of the audiophile/hi-fi business. And while their room, presented by Jeff Fox’s Command Performance AV of Falls Church, VA, featured DeVore’s most expensive speakers and the new Luxman CL-1000 Preamplifier, which retails for $19,995, other products by these companies can be had for decent money.… Read the full article

Grado Labs GH4 Limited Edition Headphones: A Must Own!

Grado Labs GH4 Limited Edition Headphones

The Grado Labs GH4 in place at Chez Levi (photograph by Bob Levi)

The GH4 is Grado’s second foray into creating headphones using Norwegian pine, upping the ante and overall headphone performance quite nicely along the way. By my count, Grado has used two types of mahogany, maple, oak wood treated by a whiskey barrel company, cocobolo, and painted maple in their lineup. Plus, at my request, Grado discovered a unique striped oak from California utilized in the Los Angeles and Orange County Limited Edition 25th Anniversary Headphones.… Read the full article

InnerFidelity Podcast No.15 with Grado Labs

By | September 27th, 2019|Categories: Innerfidelity|

Grado Labs is one of the original hi-fi headphone makers. Based in New York, the longtime family company has been manufacturing phono cartridges and headphones dating all the way back to the 1950s. At a recent audio show in Los Angeles, a new generation of the Grado company consisting of Johnathan and Matthew joined their father and current CEO John Grado to discuss what the company has been up to the past few years and what lies ahead for fans of the brand in the future.… Read the full article

OUR FULL REVIEW OF THE GRADO GH3 IS BELOW – IT WAS PART OF A HEADPHONE GROUP IN SOUND+IMAGE. YOU CAN READ THE FULL GROUP TEST AS PDFs BY CLICKING RIGHT >>>

There were many famous US brands established in the post-war period, commonly named after their various founders. Few remain independent. But Grado is still in the hands of the Grado family some two-thirds of a century after it was established in Brooklyn, New York.

And even though the Grado GH3 Heritage Series headphones are priced towards the lower boundary of this collection, they also are hand-built in Brooklyn.… Read the full article

CanJam SoCal 2019: Headamp, Alex Rosson Audio and Grado Labs

By | June 28th, 2019|Categories: Innerfidelity|

My next stop was the room being shared Mr. Speakers and Headamp.Headamp had the relatively recent GS-X Mini on display and on listening duty with the Focal Stellia it sounded phenomenal, bringing a relaxed clarity to the upper midrange of the Stellia.

Some cheaper solid state amps can make the Stellia a bit forward sounding, but through the GS-X Mini everything sounded open and supremely balanced. This would be a great reference system, and it played all the music I threw at it about as good as I’ve ever heard it on a headphone setup.… Read the full article

Grado Labs Has A Deep Heritage In Headphone History – CanJam SoCal 2019

Grado HF3

When it’s all said and done, Grado Labs will have their place on the Mount Rushmore of Hi-Fi History. Firstly for inventing the Moving Coil as we know it, and as headphone connoisseurs are concerned, secondly being the sole-torch-bearers for high-fidelity bespoke built audiophile (not studio) headphones during the ‘90s and early ‘00s. For all the young whipper-snappers out there, give respect and credit where it’s due. None of this would exist (including two-channel) without the efforts and achievements Grado Labs.… Read the full article

Grado Labs Aeon Phono Cartridge

By | April 17th, 2019|Categories: Audiophillia|

IMG_0007.JPG

Two years ago I reviewed the Grado Labs Statement v2 Cartridge ($3500), at that time the highest priced Grado cartridge—the top of their Statement Series. Reviewed using my VPI Industries Prime Turntable, I was so impressed, it has remained as my reference since—it further pulled me into vinyl. After that review, I concluded that besides speakers (which are in general large and heavy), phono cartridges (always tiny and light) are examples of a component that can significantly change the sound quality of an audio system in a way that is immediately noticeable.

The $6,000 Grado Labs Aeon Phono Cartridge debuted this year.… Read the full article
