Honor 20 will still get security updates despite Google’s restrictions on Huawei

By | May 20th, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

Honor is set to announce its flagship Honor 20 phone series tomorrow at an event in London, but whatever is unveiled will be overshadowed by the Google suspension of Huawei Android updates.

Due to new sanctions on the Chinese company in the US, Google has pulled access to all core Android services, in a move that could severely impact the launch of new Huawei and Honor phones.

Honor previously told TechRadar, "Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products, covering those that have been sold and that are still in stock globally."

TechRadar has now received confirmation that this will also be the case for the devices that Honor announces on May 21 at its London event.… Read the full article

By | May 16th, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

The Asus ZenFone 6 is the latest flagship phone from the brand, and it's bringing a full front screen thanks to a flippable camera that avoids the necessity of a notch.

Instead of having separate front and rear cameras, you can just flip the camera around when you want to be able to take a selfie or enter a video call. We recently saw this feature in the Samsung Galaxy A80, and it's just as intriguing in this phone.

It's a unique way of avoiding a notch that is a completely different technique than the pop-up camera we've seen on the OnePlus 7 Pro.… Read the full article

The world’s first foldable phone maker may have a plan for bendy wearables

By | May 9th, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

Royole took the world by surprise when it revealed the world's first foldable phone – it's called the FlexPai – earlier this year, but the company isn't out of ideas as it may bring its innovative tech to wearables too.

According to patents spotted by LetsGoDigital, the Chinese manufacturer has an idea for what looks to be a smartwatch with a foldable display.

It looks similar to existing smartwatches at first, according to the patent's images, but its rectangular display can be unfurled so it's around three times the original size.… Read the full article

By | April 16th, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

We've now used both the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X foldable phones, and while we expect more bendy devices to appear from a variety of manufacturers in the coming months we now know OnePlus won't be included.

That's at least for the time being, as the company's CEO, Pete Lau, has confirmed the company isn't developing a foldable device.

At the moment, the company is putting its R&D focus into the long-awaited OnePlus TV. That's something the company announced in September 2018, but it has yet to see the light of day.… Read the full article
