Today, Tuesday 29th of May, is the fortieth anniversary of Australia’s longest-running and most famous hi-fi store, Len Wallis Audio.

The company opened its doors for business on this day back in 1978, in Lane Cove, just a stone’s throw from the store’s current location at 64 Burns Bay Road, Lane Cove, as a  one-man store, established, owned and operated by Len Wallis, then aged 28, who’d previously worked at MS Audio and Allied Hi-Fi in Sydney. It is now Australia’s largest hi-fi store, with more than 25 staff, many of whom have worked for Len Wallis for several decades. Despite being past retirement age himself, Len Wallis is the Managing Director of Len Wallis Audio, and continues to work at the store, but the store itself is now managed by his son Tim.

Len (pictured above) credits the success of the business over the years as being the result of always putting his customers first and promoting a passion for great-sounding systems. ‘I have also had the good fortune of having a succession of very talented and supportive staff over the years,’ he said, ‘and as a result the company has earned an enviable reputation both at home and abroad for its quality hi-fi products, its expert service and its home installation fit-outs.

Although Len Wallis Audio originally specialised in two-channel audio, and the company continues its well-deserved reputation for its expertise in this specialist area of audio, Len Wallis Audio’s operations have since been extended to encompass multi-channel audio-visual systems, multi-room customisation and home theatre systems, Smart Home Integration and equipment servicing. The company has won numerous awards from CEDIA, Sound & Image Magazine, SmartHouse Magazine, Yamaha, NAD, Crestron, and others. UK Magazine High Fidelity voted Len Wallis Audio as one of the five best hi-fi stores in the world.

Len Wallis Audio was the first company outside of the United States to be named as the CEDIA ‘Dealer of the Year’ (2001) and also won the inaugural Crestron (USA) ‘Best International Total Home Technology Integrator’ award in 2005.

Len Wallis Audio is also a long-time supporter of Australia’s longest-running and most famous charity motoring event, the Variety Bash, an event where Len is always ‘hands-on’ as a driver or navigator (as pictured below).
