Our Bang For Buck Awards is something new for Headfonics. In hindsight, this a set of awards we should have addressed earlier given the wide range of gear we review here every year that is both great value and very popular. Of course, ‘Bang For Buck’ does not necessarily mean cheap though certainly, price plays […]
This is an article many of you, well mostly the companies actually, always anxiously wait for. This is the article in which we award the best gear of 2018. First up: My own selection!!
2018 Awards – Year overview
It was another great year that flew by even faster than last year. A year in which we somewhat saw of a comeback of desktop / full sized gear. That being said though, we’re still living in a world where DAPs and IEMs are the most used.… Read the full article
You won’t see it in the nighttime happy snaps of Berliners huddled in groups at Christmas markets, sipping on Glühwein. And you won’t see it in the opulence of KaDeWe’s seasonal displays, nor in Friedrichstraße’s understated lights. At this time of year, Berlin says Auf Wiedersehen to the sun until March to deliver day after day of slate grey skies and snow unable to make good on any threat. The temperature barely makes it above 5C (41F). Daylight vanishes at 3.30pm after showing up at 9am only to spend the day kicking around the house in its pyjamas.… Read the full article

First-things-first at Rocky Mountain Audio Fest 2018, find Doug White of The Voice That Is! This is one of my personal rituals of the audio show circus, and it always pays off. Doug consistently sets the bar for best-in-show sound, so visiting his rooms first leaves me with an audible experience I can call upon when touring and summing other rooms. During my visit with Mr. White, I had the pleasure of taking the first ever press photos of the new VIMBERG speaker line, from VIMBERG founder and designer Jörn Janczak.… Read the full article

Emotiva’s TA-100 aims to dominate the entry-level integrated category by offering a little more of everything
Emotiva (website here) has been a thorn in the side of many domestic and imported electronics companies for some time now. Positioning themselves downmarket in price, but upmarket in sound quality, power, and features, Emotiva has found themselves dominating their similarly priced competition by a wide margin.… Read the full article
Today’s post is all about the Head-Fi Canjam London 2018 show. Check out previous reports by clicking HERE. The picture above was taken on the top of “The Shard”.
Canjam London 2018 – Intro
My first ever Canjam show happened in London last weekend, and because this was also my first ever trip to London, I enjoyed it more than you can imagine. Apart from hanging with Lieven around the streets of London and taking that beautiful picture above from The Shard, the show itself was also so great, that it made me wanting for more next year.… Read the full article
Studio Electric looks for a higher class of consideration
Call me crazy but I have a particularly unwavering bias in this hobby for sound and sound only. I do not personally subscribe to the church of audio-bling, although I don’t mind its existence or necessity in another’s sense of taste. I understand the appeal high-end-audio-jewelry and cost-no-object endeavors that embody faultless craftsmanship inside and out. I don’t fault high-end audio manufacturers for looking to one-up each other by creating flashy high-end-art pieces as much as they are high-end-high-fidelity.… Read the full article
This year Amazon’s black friday-ish Prime Day will actually last a day and a half starting on July 16 at 3pm Eastern time. Now an annual tradition, this mid-summer attempt at jumpstarting some brand loyalty along with sluggish summer sales still requires a prime membership to activate. Previous years have garnered some interesting deals for those who love a good bargain, and even a few partnerships with audiophile brands like KEF, ELAC, Martin Logan and AKG. Audiophile DAP-maker Astell and Kern has contacted us saying they will have some special discounts going for the sale, but stay tuned for those links as the deals have not posted just yet.… Read the full article
