CEDIA, IFA, RMAF… Showtime.

By | September 6th, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , , , |

Marriott in Denver

The start of holiday prep is a special time for the audio media. The inboxes the world over fill with press releases, much travel takes place and products start shooting out into the market faster than consumers can yell “Take My Money!” By the time this post hits the airwaves IFA Consumer Electronics Unlimited in Berlin will just have wrapped and CEDIA (Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association) in San Diego will be well underway.

Local resident John Darko has some beeps and boops up on his site from IFA, and our sister-site PartTimeAudiophile will have at least one man in the field at CEDIA.… Read the full article

Emotiva’s TA-100 aims to dominate the entry-level integrated category by offering a little more of everything

Emotiva (website here) has been a thorn in the side of many domestic and imported electronics companies for some time now. Positioning themselves downmarket in price, but upmarket in sound quality, power, and features, Emotiva has found themselves dominating their similarly priced competition by a wide margin.… Read the full article

Today’s post is all about the Head-Fi Canjam London 2018 show. Check out previous reports by clicking HERE. The picture above was taken on the top of “The Shard”.

Canjam London 2018 – Intro

My first ever Canjam show happened in London last weekend, and because this was also my first ever trip to London, I enjoyed it more than you can imagine. Apart from hanging with Lieven around the streets of London and taking that beautiful picture above from The Shard, the show itself was also so great, that it made me wanting for more next year.… Read the full article

Studio Electric M4 Review | The Millennial Audiophile

Studio Electric M4 with grils

Studio Electric M4

Studio Electric looks for a higher class of consideration

Call me crazy but I have a particularly unwavering bias in this hobby for sound and sound only. I do not personally subscribe to the church of audio-bling, although I don’t mind its existence or necessity in another’s sense of taste. I understand the appeal high-end-audio-jewelry and cost-no-object endeavors that embody faultless craftsmanship inside and out. I don’t fault high-end audio manufacturers for looking to one-up each other by creating flashy high-end-art pieces as much as they are high-end-high-fidelity.… Read the full article

Amazon Prime Day 2018 – Audio Deals

By | July 16th, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , , , |

This year Amazon’s black friday-ish Prime Day will actually last a day and a half starting on July 16 at 3pm Eastern time. Now an annual tradition, this mid-summer attempt at jumpstarting some brand loyalty along with sluggish summer sales still requires a prime membership to activate. Previous years have garnered some interesting deals for those who love a good bargain, and even a few partnerships with audiophile brands like KEF, ELAC, Martin Logan and AKG. Audiophile DAP-maker Astell and Kern has contacted us saying they will have some special discounts going for the sale, but stay tuned for those links as the deals have not posted just yet.… Read the full article

The Millennial Audiophile: A Review of the NAD 316BEE V2 Integrated Amplifier

By | June 30th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , |

ES000136

The Rightful King of The Audiophile Entry-Level Integrated Amplifiers adds a New Jewel to its Crown.

I’ve owned three of the NAD 316BEE integrated amplifiers. They are my go to budget integrated for a few reasons; power, finesse, and simplicity. Each time I have parted with one I’ve known it was to initiate a budding audiophile towards making a move into the hobby. Think of the new NAD 316BEE V2 as a well-refined budget amplifier, but also gateway product that does well to give its owners a hearty helping of the audiophile pie.… Read the full article

Blog: High End Munich & Canjam Europe 2018 – Picture Report Part 2

This is Part 2 of the High End Munich and Canjam Europe 2018 show report, you can find Part 1 right HERE.

iBasso

They weren’t at the show but I saw many people walking around with the DX200 to try out gear. The mist unique was this “golden” limited edition of the DX200

iFi

Great company, great people and they had a lot to show with them.

The USB Noise filter is not directly my thing, but he iEMatch really is handy in certain situations

The AC iPurifier didn’t do anything audible in my system at home as I have balanced power lines but my colleague loves them

Of course everyone knows the Black iFi gear like the Nano and the iDSD

But everyone really wanted to see and try out the xDSD and the xCAN.… Read the full article

High End Munich. My favorite show of the year! Why is that you say? Well, it has all the brands that really matter, all the product launches, it’s not too crowded and you get to see all your audio friends again. Oh and to get there we have 700 kilometers of unlimited German Autobahn. On top of it, it this year was hosted together with an edition of Canjam Europe, yup that’s double the fun! The pics in this report are from both venues but mostly High End.… Read the full article

Bel Canto – AXPONA 2018

By | April 23rd, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , , , |

By Rafe Arnott

Bel Canto is not a name that is probably as well known as it should be in audiophile circles in North America, which is kind of crazy if you ask me because A) They are designed and built by hand in Minneapolis, Minnesota and B) They make outstanding-sounding components. There are three product lines which are all comprised of simple but beautiful high-grade aluminum chassis with a low, slim profile and cutting-edge technology. It has been my experience that regardless of which version or series you choose to run music through, they deliver an astonishingly linear frequency response, with deep, controlled bass and an upper register presentation that while detailed, never strays into fatiguing crispness.… Read the full article

MQA streaming goes mobile: nugs.net on iOS, Groovers on Android

By | January 6th, 2018|Categories: DAR|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |

MQA (the company) dropped the mother of all news annoucement bombs at CES 2017: Tidal’s desktop app would execute the first unfold on MQA-encapsulated hi-res audio streams. The tiny corner of the Internet populated by audiophiles subsequently exploded, mostly with enthusiasm but also some displeasure. The former celebrating the arrival of hi-res content to the mainstream, the latter complaining of back-door DRM by stealth.

The next question to be asked by those maintaining an open stance: when would MQA’s first unfold (core decoding) come to mobile devices?… Read the full article
