McGary Audio and Salk Sound | AXPONA 2019

AXPONA 2019 Show Coverage brought to you by Core Power Technologies

“Wow…how much do those weigh?” the show attendee asked, and I thought that was a rather odd first question.

This was the McGary Audio and Salk Sound room at AXPONA 2019, and the relatively simple system on exhibit was exceptional in one respect–the appearance of the components. I’m talking mainly about the Salk 9.5 loudspeakers and the McGary Audio SA2 power amp, gorgeous pieces of high-end audio gear that seemed to imply “significant expense.” The sound quality of the room, of course, reinforced the idea that we were listening to such lofty gear.… Read the full article

CAF 2018: Spatial Audio, Linear Tube Audio, ANTICABLE and a Lesson in Value

By | November 22nd, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

At last month’s Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, I asked a couple of audio buddies if they’d seen (well, heard) anything interesting at the show. Both of them immediately mentioned the fantastic open-baffle speakers from Spatial Audio, and how they sounded incredible for just four grand per pair. Hmmm, I thought, I’ll have to check them out. But I didn’t—and I was looking everywhere for them. It was the last day of the show, however, and I was tired and my eyes might have been on the blurry side.… Read the full article

CAF 2018: McGary Audio, Salk Signature Sound, Exogal, AntiCables; mouthwatering sound

McGary Audio shows us what thirty watts can do, Salk Signature Sound gives us the BeAT, Exogal supplies the tunes, and AntiCables once again binds together one of the best sounding systems of the show.

ES002722

“Blindsided”, is a word I used in my show report notes. I know the Salk Signature Sound… sound, but to me the SONG 3 BeAT loudspeaker is something extra special. The new SONG 3 BeAT features a single Satori beryllium tweeter (Be) mounted atop an Audio Technology (AT) 4″ mid-range, while down below a 7.5″ woofer handles bass down to 33Hz.… Read the full article

There are over 1,000,000 brands exhibiting here at Capital Audiofest … okay, okay, — I don’t know how many brands exactly, but it does seem like a lot this year. Which makes 2018’s event feel every bit like the “premier show of North America’s eastern coast”, that we often claim it to be. Fear not, as the rag-tag band of misfits from Part-Time Audiophile are here to be your surrogate audio show guide.

Here are some surefire rooms to get you started off on the right foot.Read the full article

KRELL Industries unveils their new K-300i integrated, Alta Audio shows off their superbly underrated Celesta FRM-2 speaker, Acoustic Signature supplies all things analog with a Triple X turntable, whilst AntiCables ties it all together with bow.

Krell Industries, one of the first to ever offer a high-end integrated, debuted an updated K-300i integrated amplifier that sports copious amounts of power and connectivity.

Like the KAV-300i from 1996, and the S-300i over a decade later, the new K-300i aims to reclaim the helm the high-end integrated mountain top by delivering 150 wpc into 8-ohms, or 300 wpc into 4-ohms.… Read the full article

RMAF 2018: Spatial Audio, Vinnie Rossi, Innuos and Anticable; a nomination for Best-In-Show sound.

Starting at the source, the Innuos ZENITH which is directly a more affordable version of their SE model, and spiritually their reference Statement model. The ZENITH is no slouch by any means, — seriously, it has three linear power supplies, it is not a toy — but the ZENITH is also not the company’s most refined offering. I want you to know this, because I especially took note of this once the music started playing. It shouldn’t sound this good, but here we are and there it does.… Read the full article

Capital Audiofest 2017: Well Pleased AV takes us backstage

Death, Taxes, and Good Sound from Well Pleased AV. Three things in life you can be assured of. I say this because in typical fashion Mark Sossa has brought us something new to gawk at and exhibited it with showstopping results. Namely his latest addition of Rethm loudspeakers. Mark was demoing a system of familiar electronics carried over from previous audio shows in 2017, and the new entry level Bhaava loudspeakers from Rethm. At the heart of the Bhaava tower is a retro 7” Boston/Philips Hi-Q driver, a transducer underutilized in its heyday, now finding new life in a horn loaded tower.
