CAF 2018: MoFi, Tenacious Sound and a Whole Lotta Real Estate

By | December 11th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Tenacious Sound, one of my old dealers out of Syracuse, New York, has been busy expanding over the last couple of years–owner Shayne Tenace has moved his base of operation into Augusta, Georgia and has just purchased a store in Jacksonville, Florida. Shayne teamed with industry stalwarts such as Jonathan Derda from MoFi and Lenny Mayeux from Audience to make a big presence at the 2018 Cap[ital Audiofest. Tenacious Sound had a total of eight systems set up in four separate rooms, covering nearly all price points.… Read the full article

IMC Audio, Pass Labs and Audience – CAF 2018

IMC Audio

I often harass showgoers for their opinions. It was Saturday afternoon, nearing the close of the show and I petitioned two elderly gentlemen to offer up some of their favourite rooms from the show. Outwardly one of the two men proclaimed he had only one, the IMC Audio room. I offered a few of my own, hoping he hadn’t been to them yet. He told me, “I’ve been to those rooms, and they just don’t hold up to the IMC room.” Intrigued and a little ego-hurt, I listened further as he told me why the rooms I liked were garbage, and why the IMC room was better at holding the torch for all of the audiophile virtues we seek.Read the full article

Big horns, big sound, and a superb digital playback source that had many clamoring for their wallets. The long-term future of digital playback may be upon us with Wolf Audio Systems newest two box, do-it-all digital source.

Joe Parvey of Wolf Audio Systems was having a very busy weekend at AXPONA 2018. His debut of the Red Wolf 2 was popular enough, but also Joe was coming to the rescue for other exhibitors at the show, but more on that later.Read the full article

Capital Audiofest 2017: Tenacious Sound, exhibits with tenacity

By | November 20th, 2017|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

“Trusting your ears can save you a lot of money.” That’s my version of an old audiophile chestnut. Today this philosophy was proven true by Shayne Tenace of Tenacious Sound. One of the best showcases at Capital Audiofest was a trio of Shayne’s rooms featuring varying levels of refinement and cost. The two rooms of lesser prerequisite financial means were directly in my crosshairs.

Imagine just three components; an Naim All-in-One (streamer/DAC/amp), a pair of TAD bookshelf monitors, and some seriously divine Black Cat cables.… Read the full article

Audience AU24 SX Series Cables

By | February 25th, 2017|Categories: Av2day|Tags: , , , , , , , |

Article by WL Low

I’ve always admired Audience cables for their crystal clarity, smooth top end, spacious sound staging, and lastly honesty(a rare commodity these days!). However I’ve also found their sound character to be a little malnourished in the mid range, until the arrival of the AU24 SE series, started to show some meat in that all important vocal range. Like they always said “Not till the fat lady sings!” and I love fat ladies when it comes to my audio system’s vocal performance.  … Read the full article

Audio Ramblings – The Focal ELEAR Headphones and Cabling From Moon Audio, Double Helix, Wireworld, and a Whole Lot More…

So I’ve been playing around more with headphones (headphones from Sennheiser, Audeze, AKG, and OPPO are in my usual rotation of references), but after hearing the new ELEARs from Focal… uh, we got to have these. At an event held over in Torrance at The Source A/V a while ago, Carol and I, along with a throng of local head-phiers got to hear the complete line of Focal headphones from the $3995 Utopias to the $995 ELEARs to the $249 Listens with just about any head amp out there.… all stellar, but all rather obviously different.… Read the full article

Audio Ramblings – The Aurender N100H Music Streamer and More

rambler

I have become quite lazy and it is all to blame on the technology that we use today to get our music out into the room. It all started with CDs allowing me to sit and listen to something like 60 mins of music while never stirring. Of course a lot of time I never stirred as the music simply failed to stir me being early digital and all, but then digital got way, way better and, well… that stirred the musical pot in terms of not only how much music I was buying, but in what form… physical versus file.… Read the full article

Check out the thickness of the Audience Ohno co-ax cable compared with the ballpen.

I have heard of Audience cables, but I have not actually heard them in use. So when I was given an Audience Ohno co-ax cable for review, I was more than happy to have a go at it.

Out of the box, the Audience Ohno co-ax cable is not impressive at all – it is even thinner than a chopstick.… Read the full article

Audience aR6 VS Audience aR6 TSSOX PLC

By | March 27th, 2016|Categories: Av2day|Tags: , , , , , , , |

Article by WL Low

Audience TSS

Some had said that I had over praised the Audience aR6 power line conditioner in my February 2016 review of the said item. Many also wondered if the Audience is really that good? Well, the simple answer to those questions is to try it out in your system and listen for your self. In my many years of reviewing PLC products, I often found the adage YMMV(Your Mileage May Vary) to be very true. In actual fact, no one can actually fully predict how a PLC product would react to a given audio system plugged in to it with a different location.… Read the full article
