Parasound Gets In The Zone, Sennheiser Goes 3D

By | December 7th, 2017|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , , |

Parasound fired up the PR machine this week to drop a new amplifier for the holiday season. The new Zonemaster Model 2350 goes class D into 350 watts per channel for 8 ohms but also includes the necessary feature set to push a passive subwoofer with internal low pass crossovers. The usual line level sub output is also available for a more traditional two-channel + powered sub arrangement, but stereo output from the two A/B speaker outputs can be summed to mono or switched to a sub setting with a 80Hz cutoff for even more low frequency options.… Read the full article

Impressive Technology at AXPONA & Binaural Sound Part 1

It was certainly nice to see returning attendees and meet new faces at the recent AXPONA audio show in Chicago a few weeks ago. As I said in my previous post, it will probably be the last time I assemble a high-resolution, surround demo with my partners Oppo, Benchmark, Emotiva, DH Labs, and JVC. I’ve never done a demo room at the New York Show — it’s just been me and my table of discs and a small demo setup — but I am proud to know that a number of vendors use my recordings to show off their new gear.… Read the full article

I attended the California Institute of the Arts – Music Composition program in the late 80s after studying with Mel Powell and Morton Subotnick among others. One of my closest friends — also an electronic music geek and audio engineer (we collaborated on the sound design for numerous Contemporary Music Festivals and the 1984 Olympic Arts Festival concerts) — has remained a friend after 30 plus years and has just retired from directing the UC San Diego Music Technology program. Peter is very smart in the world of music and technology and also a very fine composer (I heard an immersive composition from 24 loudspeakers in his lab that was gorgeous!).… Read the full article
