Outlaw Audio BLSv2 Bookshelf and LCRv2 Loudspeaker Review

BLSv2 and LCRv2 Speaker Introduction

Outlaw Audio is most well-known for their aBLS pair6.jpgudio electronics and subwoofers, but about 10 years ago they tried their hand at loudspeakers with successful results. The original BLS Bookshelf Loudspeaker and LCR Loudspeaker were met with acclaim and sold well, but their manufacturing source was closed down after being bought out by a private equity firm. RBH Sound R-5 Bookshelf and R-515 LCR Speaker Review

A past favorite speaker series for Audioholics was EMPtek’s acclaimed Impression speaker line because of its good performance and tasteful appearance and for its amazingly low pricing. In our reviews of the E5TiR and E55Ti, we noted their “stunning appearance” and “detailed and lifelike” sound. The Impression series went on to become a 9 year success for EMPtek and later, RBH Sound. RBH discontinued the original Impression series in order to revamp the production process for better manufacturing consistency and have now brought the Impression speakers back with a new design and new look but still at a very affordable price.

Here at Audioholics, we recently completed a string of reviews of loudspeakers in an unusually low price-range:$45 to $100 a pair. This was done with two thoughts in mind; first, that there may be some folks who want a good sounding system but who might be on a very tight budget, and second, that there may be some low-budget gems out there that can really compete with more expensive speakers in some fashion. Dayton Audio B452-AIR Bookshelf and C452-AIR Center Speaker Review

The Dayton Audio B452-AIR bookshelf speaker and C452-AIR center speaker are an expansion of the Dayton Audio B562-AIR, whichB452 w grilles on and off2.jpg itself was an offshoot of Dayton Audio’s classic original B562. What has made these series of speakers notable is the extremely low pricing for full-sized bookshelf speakers. At the time of this writing, a pair of B452-AIR speakers can be had for one penny short of $45, which makes them the least expensive speakers ever reviewed at Audioholics (Monoprice MP-65RT on sale still cost $0.11 more/pair).

Polk T15 Bookshelf Speaker Review

Loudspeaker manufacturing giant Polk Audio has a range of choices available in low cost home-audio speakers, from $100/pair bookshelf speakers to $4,000/pair floor-standing behemoths. In this review, we look at the $100/pair bookshelf speakers, the T15, to see what Polk can do for those among us on a particularly tight budget. The T15s are a medium-sized bookshelf speaker intended for a variety of applications. A large manufacturer like Polk certainly has the resources and engineering prowess to make a good, affordable speaker, so let’s take a close look at what they have delivered at this very modest price…

People often ask us, “How inexpensive can a bookshelf speaker get while still producing a reasonably good sound?MP Ribbon grille vs no grilleMonoprice astounded the audio community with their MP-65TW bookshelf speaker at $30 a pair. Monoprice was pleased with the design and decided to offer an upgraded version that swaps the dome tweeter with a higher-end ribbon tweeter. The MP-65RT has to be one of the lowest priced bookshelf speakers to sport a ribbon tweeter, and it is the subject of this review.

Dayton Audio MK402 Bookshelf and MK442 Center Speaker Review

Dayton Audio recently announced two budget speakers in their product line up, the MK402 and the MK442. The MK402 is a 2-way ported design with a 4″ midbass driver and .75″ soft dome tweeter and sells for a meager $69/pair. The MK442 steps it up with an additional 4″ driver in an MTM driver topology along with a more sophisticated crossover network and again sells for only $100/pair. In this review, we take a look at both speakers to better understand what type of performance to expect for what amounts to a cost less than most audiophiles spend on speaker cable.

Wilson Audio TuneTot Bookshelf Speaker Small Size, BIG Price

Just over a year ago, Wilson Audio began production on its new flagship WAMM Master Chronosonic, the largest, most complex, and most expensive speaker in the company’s history. The new WAMM speakers stand 7 feet tall, include 9 drivers per side, and cost a whopping $685,000 per pair. Go big or go home, right? Not so fast. At the 2018 Munich High-End Show, Wilson unveiled a new speaker called the TuneTot. Not only is it the most compact speaker Wilson Audio has ever built, it’s also by far the least expensive in the current Wilson lineup.

Dayton Audio MK402 Bookshelf Speaker Teases Audiophile for only $70/Pair

Dayton Audio proudly announced the newest addition to their best-selling line of home theater speakers. The MK402 is a simple 2-way speaker featuring a 4″ woofer and a 3/4″ soft dome tweeter, which Dayton Audio claims will cause many to rethink their concept of a budget speaker system.The drivers used in this design are vital to the compact design. The 4″ woofer in the rear ported enclosure is designed to play down to 60 Hz making it easy to blend with a powered subwoofer in a home theater environment while also not hindering the critical vocal range.

Philharmonic Audio Mini Philharmonitor Bookshelf Speaker Demo Report

Located in Maryland you’ll find the small humble speaker manufacturer Philharmonic Audio run by Dennis Murphy. Not only is Murphy a renowned speaker crossover designer, but he is also the principal violinist in the Washington Philharmonic Orchestra and plays lead violin in two tango orchestras.  Dennis Murphy designed many crossover units for companies such as Salk Sound and Ellis Audio.  He also has many speaker DIY kits such as the MBOW1 and CAOW1.  I was fortunate enough to correspond with Dennis Murphy and acquire a pair of his Mini Philharmonitor 2-way loudspeakers for an in-home audition.
