Mytek Intros Two Budget Options – The Liberty DAC and Portable CLEF

By | February 20th, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , , , |

The small label above the blue dot on the front panel of the new Liberty DAC by MyTek sums up a lot about the company’s direction in terms of compatibility. Its going more mainstream (in terms of pricing) but is bringing along a slew of audiophile features along with it. While a cool grand is perhaps more than most mainstream digital listeners might pony up, the value is still carved into the idea with large strokes. With Myteks’s upstream aspirations landing a little more on the spicy side (Manhattan II – $6k, Brooklyn DAC+ $2.2k), a $1k DAC sporting a full back of connectivity options is mighty appealing for the target market that shops within this range.… Read the full article

Wilson, Constellation, Raidho… odds and ends: CES 2018

The rest of Neli’s photos of CES 2018.

The cover photo is of costumed opera singers .. singing in the Venetian shops area [you know, the area that every audiophile has gotten lost in at one show or another – or if you are me, multiple shows :-)].

Another ELAC speaker room

CAT speakers on what looks like Theta electronics and a VPI turntable.

A new [‘cute’ says Neli] line of gear I haven’t seen before.

The traditional Epos speaker, Creek electronics, Music Hall turntable room.… Read the full article

The Audeze iSine LX

By | January 27th, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

While we may be pushing the timeline around for daily readers of the site, the Audeze announcement that came out of CES this year was still bustling around the scene by the time we made it to the musician-friendly show NAMM. It was at this Anaheim show where we finally met up with representatives from the company and got the usual download from the OC startup known for producing some serious planar magnetic tech.

With the formal introduction and PR release landing a few weeks before, the news of a new addition to the iSine family came as a little bit of a surprise.… Read the full article

RHA Wireless IEMs Celebrate 12 Hours Of Playback – CES 2018

By | January 25th, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , |

A lot of things come in 12. 12 hour day cycles (for the US, at least), collections of baked goods and occasionally a good Scotch. The press invite for CES this year included a “wee dram” and a celebration of 12 with a few native liquors of the same caliber.

On the podium this year was the MA line of wireless collar IEMS. The Bluetooth enabled set of in-ears really showcase how things have progress over the showing at CES just last year.… Read the full article

1More Unveils Mag Lev Drivers – CES 2018

By | January 22nd, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , |

Magnetic levitation is usually associated with super fast trains in parts of the world that aren’t the US. But the Las Vegas did get a taste of the tech in a interesting way with 1More at Pepcom this year (the show before the show of CES). Mag lev drivers are implemented in the team’s new gaming headphone, with the hopes of producing a more physical sense of low-end rumble – and a little more wiggle room for the diaphragm.

Both the magnet and the 50mm cone are suspended with the technology.… Read the full article

HiFiMAN And The Shangri-La Jr. – CES 2018

By | January 19th, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , , |

For most people HiFiMAN’s electrostatic statement piece dubbed the Shangri-La is pretty far out of reach at $50k. At CES, designer and founder Fang Bian unleashed another electro beast into the wild, this time a little easier to catch by the tail. How much easier? The new “Jr.” will set you back about a cool $8k, but does bring the game back down from a true statement piece and into the realm of full electrostatic setups (nice headphone + nice amplifier, really).… Read the full article
