Dan Clark of MrSpeakers is one of the hardest working guys in all of personal audio. When we first started this website, Dan was at nearly every single meet, show and audio get-together in the US. Back then he was only working with his modded Fostex T50RP headphone, which quickly evolved into a 3D-printed cup and then into drivers of his own design.

Now Dan has a full blown operation running out of San Diego and is in his second iteration of the popular Either Flow planar magnetic headphone, as well as moving into original designs within the electrostatic realm.… Read the full article

Mr Speakers ÆON Flow Open to debut at RMAF 2017

Open, then closed. That’s how Ether (US$1499), Mr Speakers’ first planar magnetic headphone to be built from the ground up, came to market. The improved Flow version (US$1799) arrived later.

For his sleeker, more affordable planar magnetic headphone, ÆON (later ÆON Flow), Clark has reversed the product versioning. First closed, then open.

A teardrop-shaped closed ÆON Flow (US$799) landed in January this year. In May, I got my first listen in at Munich High-End’s Hör Bar where I found their transparency and finesse above average for a sub-US$1K headphone.… Read the full article

CanJam SoCal 2016: MrSpeakers’ prototype ETHER Electrostatic

From the Sennheiser HD650 to the AudioQuest NightHawk to the ATC SMC11 to the speakers inside your TV set, the majority of the world’s headphones (and speakers) are of dynamic design. A metal wire coil is inserted into a narrow magnetic field and affixed to a suspended driver cone. Once charge is applied to the wire coil the resulting electromagnetism moves the cone back and forth. And that moving cone therefore creates sound.
