Command Performance AV; Focal, Naim, EAT – CAF 2018

Focal

This was by far my favourite budget system of Capital Audiofest 2018. If you consider it’s a complete system which includes Focal and Naim and clocks in at just a hair under $18K, if you don’t count in the component rack and audio cables.

When so much of the audio show can be a rattling cage full of systems with most individual components costing $20K alone, to see a more down to earth budgeted system at a show, is more than a breath of fresh air.Read the full article

RMAF 2018: A Critical Eye

I have completely bought into the music reproduction industry ever since I heard the difference between lamp cord as speaker wire and Monster brand wire oh so many years ago. Yes, I built Heathkit and Eico kits when I was a teenager in the middle 60’s, but really had no idea what was really going on.

During this time I was developing my ear for music. Big band and classical when I was alone, and rock when friends came over, as well as getting an inkling of how the music sounded different through different types of components and wire.… Read the full article

Considering my late head start, I want to point out a few brands, dealers, and vendors you might want to put on your short list of MUST SEE ROOMS. This should have been done last night, but I’ll catch up.

Often I hear after the typical show coverage comes out, things like “I didn’t know they were at the show, I missed them.” Which is a shame, but what can you do?

Here’s what? Go in prepared, and let me be your sherpa.… Read the full article

High-End-Sonus-Faber-02617

This is less of a show report and more of an industry overview, or better a few random thoughts.

Fine Sounds Group has gotten so big that it really offers less live sessions and more power demonstrations. Power deriving from the fact that it holds nothing less than four or five of the most prestigious audio brands of this industry, namely Audio Research, McIntosh, Sonus Faber, Wadia and Sumiko. They have headquarters in Europe, the States and Asia with distributors in all continents with the exception of the Antartic .… How’s that for global presence?… Read the full article
