Wall Of Sound Turns 5!

By | February 11th, 2019|Categories: Wall of sound|Tags: , , , |

Well, it was right about five years ago this week, that I decided to start this little review site. We’re still a modest affair, but I’m proud of the well over 200 articles we’ve posted. They represent a lot of effort, dedication, and fun.

So I’d like to say thanks. Thanks to the readers who stop by occasionally, or who bookmark us, or (best of all) who sign up for updates. On average of late, that’s about 1000-1200 of you every day.… Read the full article

Music Review by Noam Bronstein

Writing reviews can be a tedious task, but it’s a pleasure and an honour to write about this unique music project, which came together last year in what must have been a massive effort. It was spearheaded and organized by my friend and neighbour, Michael Oesch. Michael is a fine musician, a songwriter, and a recording engineer – he has a very cool studio in his house, and owns his own digital media company. He also seems to have more instruments than any musician I’ve met.… Read the full article

Review: Codia LP Stabilizers – Ebony 300g and 600g

Codia LP Stabilizer Ebony 600
Codia Acoustic Design LP Stabilizers
Ebony 300 & Ebony 600

by Steve Graham

Let me poke the hornet’s nest once again with my contention that money would be better spent on music, be it recordings or concerts, than Hi-Fi equipment.  Does that mean I think the Codia LP Stabilizers aren’t effective?  No, it doesn’t.  They definitely have, in my estimation and in my system, a positive effect on the sound of reproduced music.  Does this mean I follow my own advice? … Read the full article

DIY All-Tube Phono Project Wrapup: Feedback from our patron Adrian

By Steve Graham

The Tubecad Tetra DIY phono stage finds a home.

Steve,

Just a quick update.  I’m really pleased with the phono stage!  It has exceeded my expectations.  I have had the chance to listen to it for a few days.  Tonality and dynamics are excellent with the detail I like. Soundstage is wide and deep. In a word, the sound is ‘big’.  It certainly has the tube ‘naturalness’ I love. It is the best phono stage I have had the pleasure of hearing in any of my systems.  Read the full article

Digital Music Player Reviews: Part 2, plus….

Another installment in the C/H/E series, a My Audio Life special and my wife gets her first stereo system in over fourty years.

The Lumin D1

As already mentioned in my Holiday gift guide, the Lumin D1 digital music player is not a current product.  So why review it, you ask?  Well…..this isn’t a review, exactly.  Stay with me and I’ll get to it in due course.

My Audio Life: Season Finale

‘What ifs?’ are one of the things most people like to mentally tease themselves with, on occasion. Read the full article

Our Bang For Buck Gear For 2018

By | December 26th, 2018|Categories: Headfonics|Tags: , , , , , , |

Our Bang For Buck Awards is something new for Headfonics. In hindsight, this a set of awards we should have addressed earlier given the wide range of gear we review here every year that is both great value and very popular. Of course, ‘Bang For Buck’ does not necessarily mean cheap though certainly, price plays […]

Digital Music Player Reviews: Part 1, The NAD 50.2 Digital Music Player

Digital Music Player Review: Part 1

The NAD 50.2

I’ve been having fun, well, cheap thrills actually, playing with the web radio capabilities of the NAD 50.2.  It comes with the TuneIn app preloaded, and music by region, country, genre, and on occasion even sexual orientation can be selected.  The thing that amazes me the most is the prevalence of English language pop music.  In many countries where English is not the first language, announcers speak in their native tongue but play the likes of Beyoncé, Drake and Taylor Swift, among others. … Read the full article

Hi-fi Holiday Gift Guide 2018 Edition (Part 2)

Noam’s Picks for the Season

What follows is an eclectic mix of mostly unrelated stuff that either interests me, and/or that I think would interest WoS readers. Most of my suggestions this year fall well below the $200 mark. So break out your wallet, and make some audiophile loved one happy this holiday season. (I’m just kidding, audiophiles are never happy)

Vincent Bélanger – Audio Note Music CD’s and LP’s. $20 – $60 CAD. By now the gifted cellist Vincent Bélanger is a staple on the audio show scene, but if you’ve not had the pleasure of hearing his recordings on the Audio Note Music label, I have to say, they are excellent.… Read the full article
