Wall Of Sound Turns 5!

By | February 11th, 2019|Categories: Wall of sound|Tags: , , , |

Well, it was right about five years ago this week, that I decided to start this little review site. We’re still a modest affair, but I’m proud of the well over 200 articles we’ve posted. They represent a lot of effort, dedication, and fun.

So I’d like to say thanks. Thanks to the readers who stop by occasionally, or who bookmark us, or (best of all) who sign up for updates. On average of late, that’s about 1000-1200 of you every day.… Read the full article

Digital Music Player Reviews: Part 2, plus….

Another installment in the C/H/E series, a My Audio Life special and my wife gets her first stereo system in over fourty years.

The Lumin D1

As already mentioned in my Holiday gift guide, the Lumin D1 digital music player is not a current product.  So why review it, you ask?  Well…..this isn’t a review, exactly.  Stay with me and I’ll get to it in due course.

My Audio Life: Season Finale

‘What ifs?’ are one of the things most people like to mentally tease themselves with, on occasion. Read the full article

NATHAN

2018 was full of excitement. And Headfonia got a bunch of new talent, meaning that I didn’t cover as much as I did in previous years. But I got lucky. By and large, I didn’t have to cover crap.… Read the full article

Review: Burson FUN – Overloading the senses

By | November 29th, 2018|Categories: Headfonia|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

In this article we’re looking at the Burson FUN.

Disclaimer: Burson directly sent Play, Bang, and Fun for the purposes of this review. I paid nothing for any single unit, and the upgraded op-amps came along with them. Fun is a powerful dual-mono Class-A amp that will blow your socks off for 299$ USD. You can find out all about it here: Burson Fun Headphone amp / pre-amp.

Burson’s staples: cost-effective mid to high end amps, active cables, their beautiful Timekeeper power amp series, DIY-inspired component sets, and of course their peck of discrete and proprietary high-end op-amp sets, some of which Headfonia have had the good fortune to test, are well known.… Read the full article

Hi-fi Holiday Gift Guide 2018 Edition (Part 2)

By | November 29th, 2018|Categories: Wall of sound|Tags: , , , , |

Noam’s Picks for the Season

What follows is an eclectic mix of mostly unrelated stuff that either interests me, and/or that I think would interest WoS readers. Most of my suggestions this year fall well below the $200 mark. So break out your wallet, and make some audiophile loved one happy this holiday season. (I’m just kidding, audiophiles are never happy)

Vincent Bélanger – Audio Note Music CD’s and LP’s. $20 – $60 CAD. By now the gifted cellist Vincent Bélanger is a staple on the audio show scene, but if you’ve not had the pleasure of hearing his recordings on the Audio Note Music label, I have to say, they are excellent.… Read the full article

Holiday Gift Guide, 2018 – Hi-Fi Stocking Stuffers and Gifts, Part 1: Steve’s Picks

By Steve Graham

Beteran KZ ATE Dynamic Balanced Armature IEMs.  $23 CDN

Hey Miss K, put those cheap and cheerful IEM’s in the box.  I already gave you a pair.  Santa Steve knows who’s been naughty.

These are super-fun earphones and so much better than anything that comes standard with most portable electronics.  I’ve already given seven pairs to friends and family in the last six months.  … Read the full article

My Audio Life: Part 9, Headphone Amp Obsession

By | September 20th, 2018|Categories: Wall of sound|Tags: , , , , , |

By Steve Graham

Tubular Obsession Confession Time

Have you ever had an audio obsession?  Never happened to me, not much!

I became preoccupied with headphone listening for a while.  I still do it occasionally, but I really became obsessed with headphone amps.  The line of Earmax HPA’s from Germany became a particular fixation after reading a Ken Kessler review in HiFi News and Record Review many years ago.  I actually saw one in a display case at a stereo store some years ago but the shop owner didn’t offer me a chance to actually touch it, let alone listen to it.  Read the full article

Coherent Audio Winter Meet – March 4th in Hamilton

By | February 22nd, 2018|Categories: Wall of sound|Tags: , , , , , , , |

Coherent Audio is hosting another audio meet, this time at one of Hamilton’s downtown hotspots, Thirty-Three Bowen. The last two events – held in 2017 – were fun and very informative…these are free to attend and they’re a great opportunity to meet some local enthusiasts, and of course to hear Frank Fazzalari’s amazing creations – the Coherent loudspeakers. (I’m in the process of writing the Coherent Model 8 review – coming very soon!)

Nordost will be on hand, supporting once again and bringing their goodies.… Read the full article
