Qobuz x Electronica for Audiophiles

French streaming service Qobuz will soon launch in the USA. On sound quality, their standard tier is similar to Apple Music or Spotify: lossy compressed that’s called lossy for a reason. Of greater interest/import to those who care for greater audio nourishment is Qobuz’s Hifi tiers that offers CD-quality streaming – no data is thrown away. For hi-res fanciers upping to Qobuz’s Sublime tier, data rates are higher than Tidal’s MQA-powered Masters streaming but call for no MQA-capable DAC.

Whatever your streaming quality preference, there exist numerous ways in which to listen to Qobuz at home or on the go.… Read the full article

Some streamers address this issue. Both the Naim Uniti Atom and AURALiC Aries G1 show metadata on their front panel; as did the Logitech Squeezebox Touch (RIP).… Read the full article

Technics’ SC-C50 is an all-in-one for mainstreamers

Panasonic’s Technics brand is best known in audiophiles circles for its range of high-end direct-drive turntables. A few weeks ago we visited Max Kultur Technik in Berlin for a quick taste of the SL-1000R – the €15,999 flagship ‘table. Their SL-1200G is this reviewer’s daily drive.

The Japanese manufacturer is also hip to a high-end turntable’s uber-niche appeal. Last year at IFA, also in Berlin, we caught the launch of Technics’ SC-C70 all-in-one network/CD player. Some call it ‘lifestyle’. Others call it mass-market.… Read the full article
