For those attending Hi-Fi Centre‘s Audio Festival this year, there were some familiar brands to hear new gear from, new brands with new gear to hear from, and then there was Gryphon Audio who’ve never demoed here before. I’ve had the opportunity to hear their gear at RMAF, and in Munich, and always been impressed with the combination of frequency linearity, low-end grunt, and musicality that the company has wrested from a solid-state integrated amplifier like their Diablo 300 Integrated (featuring both phono and PCM/DSD DAC board in this iteration, (300 watts/8 Ohms, 600 watts/4 Ohms).… Read the full article
Big systems can be difficult to curate components for, especially ones where you have massive, multi-driver speaker arrays with complex crossovers that can soak up a lot of efficiency. Loudspeakers around 88-90 dB need higher power/current amplifiers to drive them with real dynamics. So if you’re a speaker manufacturer, and your designs are of the big, multi-driver type, you need to make sure your customer base is aware of the power requirements, or you could just build and design the whole system chain of components, which is what Flemming E.… Read the full article

The world of DSD DACs has certainly exploded over the past four years, going from a relative “we happy few” to over 400 models to choose from. The price points vary wildly…from $189 all the way out to multiple tens of thousands of bucks…but the fact is that there is something for everyone in the burgeoning world of computer-based fine audio playback. Support for DSD (Double DSD is something that just about everyone supports, and there are vendors that support out to Octo (8x) and even 10x DSD), DXD (PCM 352.8kHz/32-bit), and PCM (up to 384kHz) has become commonplace, and all of this has become expected by informed audiophiles.… Read the full article
Flemming Rasmussen of Gryphon Audio
Gryphon was never the adopter of technology for the sake of technology on its own, we always found it intriguing and followed it closely, but our experiments remained in the lab for the right timing.
Right timing? Gryphon made it first appearance 30 years ago with a revolutionary HEADAMP, taking the moving coil amplification to a whole new level, this product is today a much sought after gryphon, fetching sky high prices, not only for its collectability but, very remarkable, it is after 30 years, still a stellar performer.… Read the full article
