Top of the pops: Chord Electronics’ outstanding Hugo 2

By | September 17th, 2017|Categories: DAR|Tags: , , , , , , , |

Chord Electronics’ first foray into portable audio came three years ago with the Hugo — a DAC and headphone amplifier brick that goes where you go. The Hugo set this British manufacturer on a fresh trajectory, catering to headphone listeners on the go.

What Chord didn’t anticipate was how the Hugo’s standalone DAC performance would see it land in numerous loudspeaker systems, on permanent recharge, where it might never see a headphone — not ever. Like the football cliche, the Hugo became a game of two halves, the second of which begat the tabletop Hugo TT.… Read the full article

Picture Sunday: Auris Audio HA2-SE

By | August 27th, 2017|Categories: Headfonia|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Disclaimer: The stars in this weeks’ picture Sunday are the Auris Audio HA2-SE and the Chord Electronics Hugo 2 . This post is a part of our Picture Sunday series.

The Auris Audio HA2-SE has quickly become one of my favorite tube amps in my collection, and it actually has become my most used amplifier overall. It’s so good in fact that it made me move the Violectric V281 in to storage. The Auris Audio HA2-SE, especially with upgraded tubes, sounds extremely good and if you’re keeping an eye on the audio/amplifier market you can see Auris is conquering it quickly.… Read the full article

I published Linus’ Chord Hugo 2 review just last week, and as I won’t be covering the parts he covered already, we really advise to read Part 1 of the Hugo 2 review first, which you can find HERE. I also suggest reading up on the Chord Mojo first, here and here, and of course checking out the original Hugo review is also a good idea as the Hugo 2 will be compared to the original in this second part of the review.… Read the full article

Review: Chord Electronics Hugo 2 – Ruler of sound

By | August 8th, 2017|Categories: Headfonia|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Disclaimer: The Hugo 2 was bought directly via Chord Electronics for a discounted price. Many thanks for the generosity!

If there is one brand in personal audio that does not need an introduction I believe it’s Chord Electronics. They have been talked about continuously ever since they have brought the fabulous Hugo (you go, get it?) to the market. It was their absolute breakthrough product which has shown us what is possible with D/A converters. Their smaller, cigarette pack sized, Mojo has been, and probably still is, one of the most sold items in this segment and is loved by the whole community around the globe.Read the full article

I’ve been a long time fan of the original Hugo but our readers are probably bored of me saying that. I’m afraid that’s only going to get worse though as Chord now is back with a brand new Hugo, named the Chord Hugo 2.

Hugo 2 is a powerful DAC and headphone amp that builds on the ground-breaking original.Read the full article

UK-based Chord had some big news to unveil at CES. In a press conference located in their suite on the 34th floor of the Venetian, 1 brand new product and two serious updates were revealed to audiophile publications along with a hands on look at the new gear.

Digital designer Rob Watts took the team through the paces of the new updates which most notably included a new replacement to the popular desktop portable Hugo. For roughly the same price, the new DAC sports new innards in the form of a new chipset which promises improvements in “timing accuracy, noise reduction, headphone amp power and dynamic range.” Also updated are 4 switchable digital filters, improved battery life and a new output stage.… Read the full article
