Review: Woo Audio WA33 Balanced Headphone Amplifier

By | July 18th, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

When asked how to break up a budget for a headphone rig, the best advice is usually to spend the most on the device actually making the music (in this case a headphone) then source and amplifier. There is some debate as to the actual split between those last two categories, but the logic still makes good sense for most investments. But what happens when one achieves a high level of performance on a transducer level? Not to worry. The good folks over at Woo Audio have you covered. … Read the full article

FiiO X3 – Review

By | October 15th, 2013|Categories: Amplifier - Headmania|Tags: , , , , , , , |

Hey guys,

I have stressed for some time now on what phone I would get that has decent sound. At first I got the Galaxy S1 that had a Wolfson Dac and combined with Voodoo Sound I got decent playback.

Recently I got a Galaxy S4 knowing it has a Wolfson Dac too but I didn’t notice the European version didn’t have it, and I don’t like the sound on it.

I didn’t want to go for an Ipod or something similar because It didn’t find them to sound better than my S1 (which i kept just for music).… Read the full article

FiiO E12 Mont Blanc – Review

By | October 14th, 2013|Categories: Amplifier - Headmania|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

Hey guys,

I had my eyes on FiiO E12 for a long time now, since I’ve seen the little fellow at Sandu’s place. I remember I tried it with LCD-2 at that time and it could drive them quite nicely.

That was amazing coming from that little black box.

After that, I looked up the specs and was pleasantly surprised to see that the output power is > 880 mW @ 32 Ohms, which is pretty impressive coming from a portable amplifier powered by battery and at that size ( 124 x 65.5 x 14.5 mm )

Creek OBH-21 Review

By | September 19th, 2013|Categories: Amplifier - Headmania|Tags: , , , , , , |

Hey guys,

This little guy brought some memories back when I’ve seen it on one of jack’s shelves.

A few years ago when I got into this hobby, I was looking for an headphone amplifier for my newly bought Sennheiser HD595. This was one of the choices I had at that moment, as it was one of the few headphone amplifiers sold at that moment in Romania.

I decided to go with a Corda Cantate 2 instead.

However I have always been curious of what it is capable of.… Read the full article

The Extinct Denon D7000

By | August 4th, 2013|Categories: Headphones - Headmania|Tags: , , , , , |

Hey guys,

I’ve been waiting for a long time for an opportunity to listen to the famous D7000 and I am really happy I have a few days with it.

In one of my visits to Jack-Fi, I found a pair of forgotten Denon D7000 there, as they are specialized in speaker systems mostly. After 3 weeks I’ve been there again and found them in the same place and same position. So it was clear they would part with them easily for a few days 😀

I like its’ overall looks, but it feels a little cheap compared to other headphones at that price.… Read the full article

Hey guys,

When I have seen these headphones for the first time they got my attention with their looks.  They have a very nice design and a stylish and sturdy build quality. They are intended to be a fashion headphones, that is for sure, and I’ll be damned if I have seen a better looking headphone. They really blow the competition out of the water with the looks, feel and style.

Wrath of the Titans: Audeze LCD2 vs LCD3 & Burson Conductor vs M2Tech Vaughan

By | January 24th, 2013|Categories: Amplifier - Headmania|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |

Hello again guys,

Sometimes I think I need to go to a upgradatis detox clinic.  I am very happy with what I have, but somehow I am curios to hear other headphones, to experience different sound presentation, to find better quality, etc.

I was already thinking of another headphone as a future goal. I took hifiman he6 off the list, as I don’t want to get an amplifier just for them. Some say that Conductor or Soloist drive them well. I don’t know how that is possible, but maybe as Nelson Pass said : The first watt is the most important watt.Read the full article
