By Lam Seng Fatt

Perfect Hi-Fi will be setting up a system comprising components that have just arrived for the KL International AV show to be held later this month. Of interest will be the Version III of the iconic Sonus Faber Electa Amator speakers. The first version was launched in 1987 and the second version hit the market 10 years later.

Now in conjunction with the 35th anniversary of Sonus Faber (which was in 2018), the third version of the iconic speakers will be launched in Malaysia during the KLIAVS 2019.… Read the full article

Cooking up a summer storm with the KEF LSX

Bluetooth. AirPlay 2. Spotify Connect. Roon. Room tuning. DSP. Firmware updates. Every one an audio tech abstraction until it meets the real world where many of us un/consciously look beyond our sub-optimal listening environments.

With the Berlin summer in full swing over the weekend, it was time to bust out the BBQ. My rooftop apartment offers a balcony long enough for a large group of people and wide enough for a large Weber-on-wheels — but not a four-seater table. We’d cook, chat and sink cold adult beverages outside but we’d eat in the kitchen.… Read the full article

Letters to the editor: Videos vs. words

It seems our Chord Qutest, ALLO DigiOne Signature and KEF LSX video reviews really pushed back the email floodgates. What follows is a selection of missives from Darko.Audio readers around the world arriving in the past few weeks.

Dominik H:

Hi John,

Thank you for your review of Qutest. Actually, I have learned about Chord products thanks to your previous reviews and went along the way using Mojo and then Hugo2 for my setup during the last 12 months.

A year ago I was all into hi-end headphones and portable DAC/amps, but then I realized I prefer convenience over absolute sound quality and ended up owning and using B&W PX’s over Audeze’s and Apple AirPods over Westone UM Pro’s.… Read the full article

Roon and Spotify Connect come to the KEF LSX

By | November 19th, 2018|Categories: DAR|Tags: , , , , , |

Well, that didn’t take long. Three weeks ago, British loudspeaker manufacturer KEF announced their latest system-in-a-box / active loudspeaker, the LSX. Catch up here.

Today, KEF has announced the availability of a firmware upgrade that will add support for native Roon streaming (‘Roon Tested‘) and Spotify Connect. No more Google Chromecast workaround for Roon – the LSX will appear as a directly streamable endpoint. The LSX will also appear under ‘available devices’ within the Spotify app.

Users can apply the firmware upgrade via the LSX’s web interface.… Read the full article

Letters to the editor: KEF LSX, Mac Mini & music

“John — watching your LSX video, I had a eureka moment!  Some background, very briefly…  For years, I’ve been frustrated about the lack of Roon connectivity for the Naim Mu-so, which I use as a second sound system outside of my main lounge area.  Watching this video, I realized that I can use the same Chromecast hack with the Mu-so, which has both the optical in and the charging port!

There has been lots of forum chatter about the lack of Roon on the Mu-so line, so maybe other readers will benefit from this insight. Read the full article

A short film about the KEF LSX

By | October 31st, 2018|Categories: DAR|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

“Honey, I shrunk the LS50 Wireless” might be the snappiest way to describe KEF’s latest active loudspeaker: into a compact, Danish-fabric-wrapped cabinet, designed by one Michael Young and landing in five colour options, goes a new version of the British loudspeaker company’s Uni-Q driver array, internally juiced by Class D amplification – 70w for the mid/bass, 30w for the tweeter – and crossed over in a DSP engine that takes its binary feed from the (also internal) digital streaming board. An attractive hi-fi system in a box for apartment dwellers and bedroom producers.… Read the full article
