Pro-Ject announces MaiA S2 super-integrated amplifier

Nine — an impressive number of inputs squeezed by Pro-Ject into their latest – and rather diminutive – super integrated amplifier, the MaiA S2.

On the analogue front, we note 3 x line-level RCA pairings, a 3.5mm line-level socket and MM* phono staging. That’s five. Saying hello to up to 24bit/192kHz PCM and feeding an internal Cirrus Logic CS4344 DAC chip are asynchronous USB, 2 x TOSLINK and aptX Bluetooth. That’s four more. Total: nine.

Measuring a mere 20cm wide and 4cm high, the MaiA S2 is also one of the smallest super-integrated amplifiers currently available.… Read the full article

McIntosh releases tube/solid state hybrid integrated amplifier MA252

Our very own John Stancavage teased the release of this amp last week HERE. Seems like McIntosh is unveiling a new model every month this year. This is a very good thing indeed, as the company already has a fairly healthy depth chart of gear on hand, so adding new ones makes me think the moans of those lamenting the death of high fidelity may start to die down.

This new model, the MA252 is a hybrid design featuring a tubed input stage (and a Moving-Magnet phono stage) running a pair each of 12AX7, and 12AT7 valves with a direct-coupled, solid state output stage providing 100 watts/channel into eight Ohms, and 160 watts into four Ohms.… Read the full article
