CAF 2018: ModWright Instruments, Fritz Speakers and Oh, It’s You Again

By | December 8th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , |

It became a running joke after a while. I’d be walking the halls at the 2018 Capital Audiofest, I’d look up and Fritz would be standing there or walking by or coming out of a room. By Fritz, I mean John “Fritz” Heiler of Fritz Loudspeakers. I’d met him at a few times over the years, mostly at audio shows, but never in a room where his speakers were being shown. It was always in an elevator, or in someone else’s room.… Read the full article

CAF 2018: Fritz Speakers, ModWright Instruments, Zu Audio, Fern & Roby; The cool kids room

Fritz Speakers prove their versatility, ModWright Instruments exhibits choice sound, Fern & Roby spin a few tunes, and Zu Audio ties it all together.

The Fritz speakers are quite legendary in online audio forums, and even specifically among our review staff. John Richardson recently reviewed the Fritz Carrera 7 BE monitors, and by the end of it all Fritz Speakers walked away with an Editor’s Choice Award. So I was excited to add the Fritz / ModWright room to my list of show coverage.… Read the full article

There are over 1,000,000 brands exhibiting here at Capital Audiofest … okay, okay, — I don’t know how many brands exactly, but it does seem like a lot this year. Which makes 2018’s event feel every bit like the “premier show of North America’s eastern coast”, that we often claim it to be. Fear not, as the rag-tag band of misfits from Part-Time Audiophile are here to be your surrogate audio show guide.

Here are some surefire rooms to get you started off on the right foot.Read the full article

AXPONA 2018: Studio Electric, Fern & Roby, Zu Audio, Modwright; All-American Performance

There have been a growing number of monitor/bookshelf designs that I’ve encountered recently which impress me more than towers from other manufacturers. Segregating speakers firstly by whether they are bookshelf monitors or floor-standing doesn’t make as much sense as it used to.

ES000106

I currently have the Studio Electric M4 Monitors in for review, and comparing the looks of the updated models on show at Axpona to the ones I have at home, it seems they have hit maturity. The formerly rudimentary looks in the M4 review samples, have now grown up to include rich maple veneers, and a new aluminum grill worthy of its own photoshoot and review.… Read the full article

CAF 2017: CanMania Photo Tour

By | January 23rd, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

The east coast’s favorite audio show Capital Audiofest was host to 2017’s CanMania. This headphone show is in coordination with Headphone.Guru.

CanMania brings together manufacturers, vendors, headphone and personal audio enthusiasts along with the audio industry press.  Sprawling large and wide across the Plaza ballroom exhibitors have plenty of room and separation for show-goers to avoid the cluttering and lack of elbow room often a pain of many headphone shows. There were also “Quiet” rooms available for exhibitors wishing to offer a special VIP private listening experience.… Read the full article

AXPONA 2017: Music From Another Room, Part 3

A photojournal by Eric Franklin Shook

You can’t just say “It’s awesome, buy it.”

Eliciting a gut reaction of confidence in consumers who speak your name in conversations of top tier service and products is neither straightforward, measurable, or paint by numbers. Decades of experience and market research at all levels of the supply chain are prerequisite to attaining a seat at the table with the most trusted names in hi-fi. Building a good product is not enough. Anyone telling you different has probably watched Field Of Dreams too many times.… Read the full article
