FLORIDA 2019 – Sumiko Analog, Pro-Ject, Sonus Faber, Pangea Audio

Pro-Ject was on site demonstrating the EISA-award-winning combination of Roon-enabled network endpoint (StreamBox S2 Ultra) and MQA capable DAC (PreBox S2 Digital) with two sets on hand for listening. In addition to the streaming and digital products, they were showing their higher performance RPM-series turntable, and Sonus Faber Guaneri Homage loudspeakers.

For myself it’s the PreBox S2 Digital that is and should be all the rage. A small, 5V driven stereo DAC / Preamplifier box, with a built-in headphone amplifier. Making money go further.

There were a number of spectacular, cost-no-object components drawing stereo fans at the Los Angeles Audio Show, but the room I had the hardest time getting into featured a $350 USD rig.

laas2Even late Sunday – a typically slow-traffic time as the event wound down – seats were full and a line stretched back to the door of the “Getting Started/Audio for the Rest of Us” exhibit.

The room, sponsored by Positive Feedback, was filled with gear that could be used to assemble systems ranging from the dirt-cheap example above up to around $5,000 USD.… Read the full article
