ListenUp Audio Video and RMAF Domination | RMAF 2019

ListenUp Audio Video, which operates a chain of high-end audio stores throughout Colorado and New Mexico, exhibited in at least a dozen rooms and booths at the 2019 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. Remember when I said I was amazed at Scott Walker Audio for running eight rooms at T.H.E. Show back in June? Well, ListenUp has upped the ante considerably. I know, since I visited at least 11 of those rooms, spending much of Sunday basking in the glow of many excellent systems.… Read the full article

RMAF 2018: ListenUp and How to Conquer a Hotel Room

By | November 18th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

ListenUp has really built up their presence in the Mountain Time Zone over the last few years—the audio/video dealer now has four locations in Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs and Albuquerque. Perhaps it’s a coincidence that I walked into four separate ListenUp rooms at the 2018 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, each one presenting a great-sounding system at different price points.

Before I launch into all the wonderful equipment ListenUp brought to the Marriott, I do want to discuss one room anomaly found in many of the rooms—one that I’ve dealt with as an exhibitor many times.… Read the full article

RMAF 2018: Raidho Acoustics, SimAudio Moon and a Deep, Deep Window into the Music

My first hands-on experience with Raidho Acoustics’ loudspeakers occurred a few years ago, when I was pulled into an exhibit room to listen to a new digital technology. I can’t even remember what that product was, but I do remember the small yet very expensive Raidho 1.1 monitors that were in the system. They provided one of the most vivid and clear windows into a musical event I’ve ever heard—albeit with limited low-frequency information. I was so impressed with that demo, and the 1.1s, that I continue to suspect that they’re one of the finest 2-way monitors you can buy…if you can afford them.… Read the full article

CEDIA 2018: Simaudio Moon 390 hits a GRAND SLAM

By | September 11th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |

We’re fortunate to get to learn, listen and play with lots of great products.  But sometimes we come across something that surprises us.  In the Roon Labs booth at CEDIA, they had assembled an army of the best streaming DACs for attendees to listen to over Audeze headphones. In that sea of great devices, one stood out from the rest….

All of the usual suspects were lined up the booth: dCS, T+A, MyTek, Bryston, Moon by Simaudio to name a few.… Read the full article

AXPONA 2018: Quintessence and Musical Surroundings, a devotion to sound

A world within the show, a Quintessence Audio LTD exhibit only requires a few steps physically (none socially) to transport you to a wonderland of high-end audio toys. For one weekend a year, the Chicago area showroom gathers up its roots and re-plants itself large at Axpona. Often taking up an entire floor of the show tower, this year Mick Survance and his crew set up shop at the proper nexus of the audio show traffic.

Given enough time in any industry, navigating the metaphorical road that is predictable success becomes intuition.… Read the full article

LA Audio Show 2017: Nordost’s new QKore devices help you stay grounded

There’s ground, and then there’s QBase Ground.

You have to hand it to Nordost. While many audiophiles are still hotly debating the degree to which wire and various tweaks can improve a system’s sound, the Massachusetts-based company just keeps doing straightforward A/B tests at each major stereo show. Nordost’s demos are refreshingly light on technical theory.  Instead, staffers rotate different cables, cords and isolation devices in and out of a top-shelf system.

This exercise allows listeners to make a simple decision.… Read the full article
