CAF 2018: MoFi, Tenacious Sound and a Whole Lotta Real Estate

By | December 11th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Tenacious Sound, one of my old dealers out of Syracuse, New York, has been busy expanding over the last couple of years–owner Shayne Tenace has moved his base of operation into Augusta, Georgia and has just purchased a store in Jacksonville, Florida. Shayne teamed with industry stalwarts such as Jonathan Derda from MoFi and Lenny Mayeux from Audience to make a big presence at the 2018 Cap[ital Audiofest. Tenacious Sound had a total of eight systems set up in four separate rooms, covering nearly all price points.… Read the full article

Tenacious Sound, A Tale of Two Cities and Two Systems – CAF 2018

By | November 19th, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , |

Shane Tenace isn’t just the ringmaster of this multi-room circus of audio, he’s also the founder and proprietor of Tenacious Sound. Shane divides his time and expertise for system building between his two locations; the first located in Augusta GA, and the second in Syracuse NY.

To witness Shane’s enthusiasm for sound, growth, and market dominance, you’d almost think he’s got the entire east coast hi-fi market on lock-down between his two locations. Representing well over 30+ brands, it’s all the reason for Shane to show large at CAF 2018.Read the full article

The speakers were five years in the making, but it took just five minutes for audiophiles to realise that they were listening to something very special yesterday at the launch of the PMC Fenestria floorstanders at AV Designs. They also had the privilege of being the first Asians to hear the flagship speakers of PMC’s Fact range.… Read the full article

Finally, AV Designs has officially launched its new showroom at Boulevard Business Park, Taman City, off Jalan Kuching in Kuala Lumpur.

James and company had moved in last year, but he had spent the past few months renovating and tuning the listening rooms with the help of architect-cum-audiophile Jo Ki, the LS3/5A sifu.

Well, was it worth the wait?… Read the full article

Capital Audiofest 2017: Tenacious Sound, exhibits with tenacity

By | November 20th, 2017|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

“Trusting your ears can save you a lot of money.” That’s my version of an old audiophile chestnut. Today this philosophy was proven true by Shayne Tenace of Tenacious Sound. One of the best showcases at Capital Audiofest was a trio of Shayne’s rooms featuring varying levels of refinement and cost. The two rooms of lesser prerequisite financial means were directly in my crosshairs.

Imagine just three components; an Naim All-in-One (streamer/DAC/amp), a pair of TAD bookshelf monitors, and some seriously divine Black Cat cables.… Read the full article

MoFi: Wharfedale, Quad, TAD and Isotek

By | June 8th, 2017|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

Mofi Distribution curates a lot of high fidelity brands, and as such their rooms at audio shows are usually 100% available through them as a one stop shop. The listening station was split into two last weekend, with one side featuring a higher-ish end (but not really, in comparison to most other rooms) and one budget side.

The “high end” side had the same TAD Laboratories Micro Evolution One ($12.5k) we saw at AXPONA this year. During that demo, MoFi’s Jon Derda gave us a sample of Led Zepplin’s “Moby Dick” that we won’t soon forget.… Read the full article

6L6 vacuum tube review. Tubes courtesy of www.thetubestore.com

Shortly after my EL34 tube review on WallofSound.ca Jon Esau of www.thetubestore.com asked if I might be interested in reviewing a bunch of 6L6s. It happens to be one of my two favorite tubes, right up there tied with the majestic 845 I use in my Line Magnetic amplifier. An offer I couldn’t refuse!

Like the EL34 and the less common 6V6 and 5881, the 6L6 is revered by rock, blues and jazz guitarists. I find that in the single-ended configuration it is usually superior to the EL34.… Read the full article
