Be prepared for a jaw-dropping sound sensation in Absolute Sound’s Diamond 4 room as there will be an all FM Acoustics system with digital songs from a dCS CD player and analogue tracks from a Vertere turntable.

 

The truly high-end system will comprise the FM 108 II power amplifier, FM 155 IIR preamp, FM Inspiration XS 3 speakers and dCS Rossini CD player with dCS Master Clock.

Warsaw 2017: Miro Krajnc and Soulsonic

Names like Andrew Jones, Laurence Dickie and Joachim Gerhard do ring a bell? From what I have found or better auditioned during the Warsaw show we must add Miro Krajnc to the list of modern speaker designers. Miro is the mind behind the Ubiq Model One, the Soulsonic Hologram X and the Natural Sound speakers.

I will focus this report on the Soulsonic Hologram X, an imposing hybrid design standing more than two meters tall and packing four 15″ neodymium magnet woofers, a 12″ paper-cone midrange driver and a ribbon tweeter good for 221 square cm effective radiating area.

ATC, Burmester and Vertere – RMAF 2017

Rutherford Audio was showing some sonic svelteness at RMAF this year in Denver. The high-end distributor had curated a beautiful-sounding demo in their room at the Denver Marriott Tech Centre consisting of the heavyweight (130 lbs each) ATC SCM50ASLT three-way active loudspeakers ($32,000 USD/pair), an ATC P1 300-watt/channel power amplifier ($4,599 USD), a Vertere Acoustics Magic Groove MG-1 turntable with SG-1 tonearm, Scheu MC cartridge/Vertere Phono-1 MC/MM phono stage, and a Reference Line Burmester 111 Music Centre ($55,000 USD) acting as a music server, CD player/ripper, DAC, and analog preamplifier.… Read the full article

Video: Interview with turntable legend Touraj Moghaddam of Vertere Acoustics

Turntable designs are as different, and varied as suit designs. Both have a basic pattern that they must follow, but once those have been established, the sky’s pretty much the limit. I’ve seen all manner of turntables over the years, from low-mass skeletal designs, and high-mass platter concepts to suspension-enabled stalwarts. But I’ve rarely seen  turntables combining such solid design principles that are as beautiful sounding, and looking as Touraj Moghaddam’s Vertere Acoustics Magic Groove (MG-1), and Standard Groove (SG-1) models.… Read the full article
