LOS ANGELES (PTA) — This year’s T.H.E. SHOW 2019 is bigger, better, and already on track to be the most newsworthy yet. There are over 1,000,000 brands exhibiting here in Long Beach — okay, okay — maybe not a million brands exactly, but 200 brands is definitely twice as many over last year. Which makes T.H.E. SHOW 2019’s event feel every bit like the premier audio show of America’s west coast. Lots of exciting manufacturer debuts are taking place at this year’s show, and we at Part-Time Audiophile are committed to bringing you the most extensive coverage of what’s NEW and out-of-this-world in our little Hi-Fi universe.… Read the full article

It’s a wrap! and Best of Show | High End 2019

High-End 2019 show coverage brought to you by Core Power Technologies

The 2019 High End Munich show went as expected and that translates into many big and interesting rooms, lots of new proposals coming from some 500+ manufacturers along with beer and pork-knuckles a go go. It was fan catching up with industry insiders and fellow journalists. It is also interesting to use such shows to re-calibrate your hearing against other reporters and see if you are on the same page when it comes to what sounds good, natural or not.… Read the full article

FLORIDA 2019: The Best of The Show, and Wrap-Up

FLAXShowGuide

To wrap things up, I think the major question of the show was answered. If the Florida Audio Expo was indeed an experiment, I think the results have given us a proof of concept. Attendance at the show was solid from hour-one on Friday through Sunday close. Exhibitors brought their A-game. The efforts from local dealers and manufacturers afar combined to offer up an especially engaging in-room experience. In some ways, all the factors of what make a great sounding and informative listening session were ticked.… Read the full article

LampizatOr, Von Schweikert, MasterBuilt – Florida 2019

LampizatOr, Von Schweikert, MasterBuilt - Florida 2019

LampizatOr had plenty of new product on show here in Tampa. Firstly, their new amplifier the Pacific A300 ($16,000 USD). Although being driven with a VAC Preamplifier in this system, many questions have to be asked. Is it an integrated? Is it a power amplifier? It’s both. Features of the amplifier include 300 watts per channel of Class A/B power output, 0.45v input sensitivity across four inputs. Each input allows custom configuration and labeling on its large OLED display, but don’t fret — there is dimming.… Read the full article

They’ve done it again! The Audio Company of Marietta, Georgia USA is without a doubt, one of the premier exhibitors of Von Schweikert, VAC, Esoteric, Airtight, Kronos, Critical Mass, Clearaudio, and Masterbuilt products. Jim, Gordon, and Keith take the Florida Audio Expo by “sonic-storm”, and leave many a show-going jaw dropped.

Holding court in the largest exhibit room within the Embassy Suites main hotel, The Audio Company set out to eliminate all the competition by assembling one of the more beautiful looking and sounding exhibits I’ve encountered.… Read the full article

CAF 2018: Marc’s Wrap-Up

By | December 22nd, 2018|Categories: Audio Federation, Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

The last couple of months have been a blur. Just days after I joined the team at Part-Time Audiophile and The Occasional, I was off to Denver to cover the 2018 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. Then, just a few weeks later, I was driving down to Rockville, Maryland to cover the 2018 Capital Audiofest. Then I’d been home about a week before I headed out to San Diego to cover the debut of the Dan D’Agostino Relentless monoblock amplifiers and YG Acoustics Sonja XV speakers at Alma Audio.… Read the full article

The Audio Company, VAC, Von Schweikert; Sounds Like A Million – CAF 2018

By | November 28th, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , |

All parties involved are known for bringing their A-game to every exhibit. Showing the ultra-high-end system that debuted here at CAF exactly one year ago, things now sound better than ever, as the year-long tour has benefited from experience. Along with the new VAC Statement 450i iQ Integrated Amplifier (on static display) living up to its every foreshadowed promises recently at RMAF. The main system here at CAF represents what I feel is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

This was probably the only room at Capital Audiofest that could have charged a “special exhibit” admission price during the show.Read the full article

2018 RMAF: Marc’s Wrap-Up

By | November 25th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

I haven’t attended a high-end audio show as a member of the press in nearly a decade, and I’ve never done a “wrap-up” before, so this will be both an honor and a stroll into the wilderness. The 2018 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest was indeed a thrill–I haven’t been there for the last two or three years and it was a pleasure to return. I had one small problem, however, with getting lost. This was the first time I’ve been to the DTC Marriott since the renovation, and everything was moved around.… Read the full article

CAF 2018: PlanterSpeakers, So Good You Can Put a Plant In ‘Em!

By | November 14th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

The most modest exhibit I witnessed at the 2018 Capital Audiofest was in one of the upstairs hallways where—I kid you not—someone had placed some brochures, a pile of business cards and a pair of interconnects on a window ledge. This is becoming common at high-end audio shows, where every nook and cranny is filled with a salesman and a folding table. I don’t know if this works or not, but I seldom pay attention to these people—until now.

That’s what this guy said to me, some guy who was sitting next to me listening to the $300,000/pair Von Schweikert Ultra 11 loudspeakers.… Read the full article

CAF 2018: The Audio Company, Von Schweikert, VAC, Esoteric and The Big Why

By | November 4th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

Each time I’ve visited the Von Schweikert rooms at hi-fi shows over the last few years, Damon Von Schweikert and Leif Swanson have upped the ante in terms of presentation, sound and most importantly, the WOW Factor. First of all, I’m not damning them with faint praise, as if back in the day their exhibit rooms were only so-so and they’ve gotten much better. No, we’re talking about a duo who wins award after award, best-in-shows, all the marbles. The fact that they keep outdoing themselves is perhaps troublesome for their competitors, but outstanding for the industry.… Read the full article
