The last couple of months have been a blur. Just days after I joined the team at Part-Time Audiophile and The Occasional, I was off to Denver to cover the 2018 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. Then, just a few weeks later, I was driving down to Rockville, Maryland to cover the 2018 Capital Audiofest. Then I’d been home about a week before I headed out to San Diego to cover the debut of the Dan D’Agostino Relentless monoblock amplifiers and YG Acoustics Sonja XV speakers at Alma Audio.… Read the full article
All parties involved are known for bringing their A-game to every exhibit. Showing the ultra-high-end system that debuted here at CAF exactly one year ago, things now sound better than ever, as the year-long tour has benefited from experience. Along with the new VAC Statement 450i iQ Integrated Amplifier (on static display) living up to its every foreshadowed promises recently at RMAF. The main system here at CAF represents what I feel is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
This was probably the only room at Capital Audiofest that could have charged a “special exhibit” admission price during the show.… Read the full article
I haven’t attended a high-end audio show as a member of the press in nearly a decade, and I’ve never done a “wrap-up” before, so this will be both an honor and a stroll into the wilderness. The 2018 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest was indeed a thrill–I haven’t been there for the last two or three years and it was a pleasure to return. I had one small problem, however, with getting lost. This was the first time I’ve been to the DTC Marriott since the renovation, and everything was moved around.… Read the full article
The most modest exhibit I witnessed at the 2018 Capital Audiofest was in one of the upstairs hallways where—I kid you not—someone had placed some brochures, a pile of business cards and a pair of interconnects on a window ledge. This is becoming common at high-end audio shows, where every nook and cranny is filled with a salesman and a folding table. I don’t know if this works or not, but I seldom pay attention to these people—until now.
Each time I’ve visited the Von Schweikert rooms at hi-fi shows over the last few years, Damon Von Schweikert and Leif Swanson have upped the ante in terms of presentation, sound and most importantly, the WOW Factor. First of all, I’m not damning them with faint praise, as if back in the day their exhibit rooms were only so-so and they’ve gotten much better. No, we’re talking about a duo who wins award after award, best-in-shows, all the marbles. The fact that they keep outdoing themselves is perhaps troublesome for their competitors, but outstanding for the industry.… Read the full article
There are over 1,000,000 brands exhibiting here at Capital Audiofest … okay, okay, — I don’t know how many brands exactly, but it does seem like a lot this year. Which makes 2018’s event feel every bit like the “premier show of North America’s eastern coast”, that we often claim it to be. Fear not, as the rag-tag band of misfits from Part-Time Audiophile are here to be your surrogate audio show guide.
Here are some surefire rooms to get you started off on the right foot.… Read the full article

When The Audio Company of Marietta, Georgia decides to demonstrate what they do, they pull out all of the stops, and bring their A-game. Becoming darlings of the audio show circuit for consistently producings best-in-show sound, they also have a knack for creating systems that pluck the “audio eye-candy” strings that generates buzz from press, exhibitors, and show attendees.

Not too far from me on the town square in Marietta, Georgia is The Audio Company, a wonderful upscale store with several of the best high-end brands. For the past few years, this team of audio professionals led by Keith Sequerra, Jim Kumpe, and Gordon Waters has been working with Leif Swanson and Damon Von Schweikert from Von Schweikert Audio and Kevin Hayes from VAC to bring a mega-system of VAC Reference gear and Von Schweikert flagship speakers. Last we saw them, the team had the flagship Ultra 11 speakers at Axpona and the sound was simply magical when playing the famous Royal Ballet LPs. … Read the full article

Exhibitors at audio shows are known for hosting after-hours listening parties, in part to relax and mingle with attendees in a less pressured environment, along with an extra chance to flaunt their wares.
For me this is a welcomed encore performance put on by The Audio Company at 2017’s Capital Audiofest (read about it HERE). It’s a brilliant move to have a system like this making its way around the globe, as it truly is a one of kind experience.… Read the full article
