Daedalus, Linear Tube Audio, LamizatOr, WyWires; All Reference – CAF 2018

By | November 15th, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , , , |

This is a system I could listen to every day and twice on Sundays. Which is exactly what I did at Capital Audiofest. On Friday, I poked my head in for a listen, Saturday, much of the same. Sunday morning I was there first thing to gather some final impressions of the system and snap some photos when I was called away for an urgent show-going responsibility. So I finally return on for my “twice” listen on Sunday, along with some photos — and I am noticing as the show is winding down, that the Daedalus, Linear Tube Audio and LamizatOr room is still rather busy.Read the full article

There are over 1,000,000 brands exhibiting here at Capital Audiofest … okay, okay, — I don’t know how many brands exactly, but it does seem like a lot this year. Which makes 2018’s event feel every bit like the “premier show of North America’s eastern coast”, that we often claim it to be. Fear not, as the rag-tag band of misfits from Part-Time Audiophile are here to be your surrogate audio show guide.

Here are some surefire rooms to get you started off on the right foot.Read the full article

AXPONA 2018: Emerald Physics wrestles a gorilla and wins

Overwhelmingly full sound, the new speakers from LSA were assembled only one day before the show. Breaking in wasn’t even option, yet the crowds were set back in their seats with mouths agape. Prodigious was the bass and scale of these little wonders. There was a 24” open baffle sub in the room, it wasn’t even turned on, though I was.

There are over 160 rooms and exhibits here at Axpona. Making this event the largest audio show in North America. For some this can be overwhelming and cause a bit of anxiety. But have no fear, the Part-Time Audiophile Dream Team of journalists, personalities, and humorists are ready to be your guide.

Just one part of the Paragon duo of rooms at the show, Doshi Audio had us befuddled at how well his new seventy-five watt per channel amplifier was handling the load presented by the Wilson speakers.Read the full article

RMAF 2017: Cables from Skogrand for under a grand

By | November 18th, 2017|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

I’ve found many things to like about Skogrand Cables over the last three years, mainly being their sound, no you shouldn’t expect The French Laundry when swapping out one great cable for another, but in listening to many Daedalus, ModWright, Vpi Industries systems before, with either WyWires or Skogrand cables of the past, I’ve come to know what to expect from the equipment trio when it comes to cable changes.

Rocky Mountain Audio Fest is the second time I’ve had the chance to hear Skogrand’s Vivaldi series of speaker cables and interconnects.

RMAF 2017: Daedalus, ModWright, WyWires are smooth operators

FullSizeRender-655-1

When does a box look like a subwoofer and woof like a subwoofer, but not really be a subwoofer? When it’s attached to Daedalus Audio’s new Zeus loudspeaker.

The 74-inch-tall transducer, the flagship of the Apollo line, features a narrow top unit containing two 10-inch woofers, two five-inch midrange drivers and two one-inch soft-dome tweeters. That module looks like it’s sitting on top of a slightly wider and deeper sub cabinet, but in fact the lower box is empty and is bolted to the tower.… Read the full article

RMAF 2017: Must See Rooms

By | October 7th, 2017|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

by Eric Franklin Shook

Considering my late head start, I want to point out a few brands, dealers, and vendors you might want to put on your short list of MUST SEE ROOMS. This should have been done last night, but I’ll catch up.

Often I hear after the typical show coverage comes out, things like “I didn’t know they were at the show, I missed them.” Which is a shame, but what can you do?

Here’s what? Go in prepared, and let me be your sherpa.… Read the full article
