Quad 2812 Electrostatic

The Quad ESL63 and its successors are classics of audio. The design, begun in 1963 and presented to the public as a finished product in 1981, was a sensation from the start and has been a contender for “the world’s best speaker” ever since—or, more precisely, the world’s best speaker in certain ways. The current 2812 model is the best version of the design to date in physical integrity. Its bass performance also seems superior to earlier versions. Sometimes, when family firms are sold and moved, the products go downhill in fit and finish.… Read the full article

Christiaan Punter has posted a review of the Furutech FP-TCS31 power cable and FI-28/FI-38 connectors at Hi-Fi Advice. His conclusions:

“While less articulate and certainly more relaxed and smoother than its predecessor, the FP-TCS31 cable manages to extract more detail from recordings and sounds more powerful and more colourful, with a lager soundstage as a bonus.”

The late great B.B. King (no doubt still cradling his beloved guitar Lucille in some heavenly nightclub) would have been mighty proud of two recent concerts by two master slingers of the genre – harmonica and vocalist Charlie Musselwhite and guitarist and vocalist Walter Trout- as each delivered superb shows before sold-out audiences at The Narrows Center For The Arts (the “Narrows”) in Fall River, MA.Read the full article

Acoustic Imagery ATSAH NC500 Monoblock Amplifiers

acousticimagery_atsah

David Abramson has posted a review of the Acoustic Imagery ATSAH NC500 monoblock amplifiers ($1995/pair) at Stereo Times. His conclusions:

“No the ATSAHs are definitely not the only game in town, but they are to my eye the most streamlined and sexy value-priced implementation of Bruno’s revelatory creations. To wit, they are well-built, lightweight, relatively cool-running, compact and sleekly attired and more importantly, these tiny titans offer among the very best sonics I’ve ever had the pleasure of welcoming into my home with little in the way of trade off.”
