By | June 1st, 2019|Categories: Audio Federation|Tags: |

On the last day at Munich, Neli, Florian (Hi Florian!) and I went around to exhibits and rooms together. This was the first room we visited. There is an intro followed by music by Depeche Mode and not sure who recorded in 24bit, 96kHz.

Very big, dynamic sound. Not the best at communicating subtleties like emotion [which theoretically could be ameliorated by paying close attention to the upstream components like cables and vibration control].

By | June 1st, 2019|Categories: Positive Feedback|Tags: |

How many times have you read a review of some recording, some system, or some individual piece of gear that said something like this? “The orchestra was rendered perfectly, with each individual instrument hung in its own separate space, emerging from a perfectly black background…” Or maybe the reviewer had enthused that “It was easy to tell that there were three rows of violins,” and had gone on to describe the spaces between them and between the violin section and the other instrumental sections as “velvety black,” “…with no sound at all to interfere with sonic imaging or mar the purity of the soundstage.” Perhaps he just wrote that “Each individual note was crystal-clear, against the perfect silence of a dead-black background.”

That’s vividly poetic, but can it really be true?… Read the full article

Best Linux distro for developers in 2019

By | June 1st, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

One of the more recent directions of Linux appears to have been to simplify the user experience, in order to make it more familiar and friendly to Windows users. After all, enticing users from Windows to the joys of Linux can hardly be a bad thing, right?

And yet to achieve that means some degree of compromise to the Linux environment itself.

Originally a haven for coders, flavors that aim to simplify Linux for users can result in problems for more experienced users.… Read the full article

By | June 1st, 2019|Categories: AV Hub|

Australian company Heschl Audio Labs has released its Hal 350 amplifier/DAC, designed by Rod Harris. (Amplifier pictured above, click image to enlarge.)

Will 5G solve signal issues at stadiums, festivals and venues?

By | June 1st, 2019|Categories: TechRadar|

Big events with thousands of people in attendance put a huge stress on mobile networks, meaning you’re often unable to message your friends to meet up, upload videos to social media, or livestream your favorite band playing their final encore.

That’s largely due to the concentration of people using spectrum in one location over a standard 4G (or perhaps even 2G or 3G) signal, which means the connectivity can crash out and become unusable for the majority of a crowd.

But with 5G just around the corner – it’s set to launch in the US and UK in the coming months – we may see a solution to the problem soon, with the next-gen mobile network offering faster speeds as well as further spectrum, allowing more people to be online at the same time.… Read the full article
