Spatial Audio Designer integrates MPEG-H

New Audio Technology now offers a free upgrade for its Spatial Audio Designer (SAD) software, which includes complete support of MPEG-H Audio. SAD Version 2 is available for MacOS and Windows and supports the creation, authoring, monitoring and export of MPEG-H master files. The Hamburg-based company, which develops software tools for creating and authoring multichannel and immersive audio, launched the SAD Version 2 upgrade at the beginning of January. Sony Introduces All New “360 Reality Audio” Music Experience Powered by Object-Based Spatial Audio Technology Based on MPEG-H Audio

At CES 2019 in Las Vegas, Sony announced an all new music experience called “360 Reality Audio” that makes listeners feel as if they are immersed in sound from all directions. The new experience is delivered by Sony’s object-based spatial audio technology. DRM’s Progress in India

India is currently rolling out the largest digital radio deployment worldwide, as the public service broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) is upgrading the country’s terrestrial broadcast infrastructure for the future. The broadcast standard of choice for this project is Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM), the universal, open digital broadcasting standard for all coverage needs. AudioLabs researcher receives KlarText Award

Yesterday, Christof Weiß, who works at the International Audio Laboratories Erlangen, received the KlarText Award – the Klaus Tschira Foundation’s prize for science communication. His winning entry in the Computer Science category was entitled Das ist Haydn. Ganz sicher! and explains in an easy to understand manner the key ideas and results of his doctoral thesis about algorithms that can recognize musical styles. Christof Weiß, born in Regensburg, Germany, in 1986, studied physics at the University of Würzburg and composition at the University of Music Würzburg.… Read the full article

Siegfried Fößel Appointed Head of Technology Study Program at HFF Munich

Dr. Siegfried Fößel, who leads the Moving Picture Technologies department at Fraunhofer IIS, has been appointed as the new head of the Technology study program at the University of Television and Film (HFF) Munich. MPEG-H Audio Trial During European Athletics Championships 2018

By Adrian Murtaza | The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), together with EBU members BBC, France Télévisions, IRT, RAI and ZDF, as well as a range of technology partners, conducted what has been probably the most complex broadcast trial in Europe so far at the 2018 European Athletics Championships in Berlin. The trial demonstrated the world’s first live production and distribution of Ultra High Definition (UHD) content, with High Frame Rates (HFR), High Dynamic Range (HDR), and Next Generation Audio (NGA). The Fraunhofer IIS team, together with technology partners, supported the onsite sound engineers of EBU member stations in order to familiarize them with the features and new possibilities of MPEG-H Audio.… Read the full article
