DAR’s Product of the Year 2017

By | December 30th, 2017|Categories: DAR|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Granted, the KEF LS50 Wireless are also available in white, the Sony WH-1000XM2 in champagne-beige and Chord offer a handsome red-stitched leather case to house the Mojo-Poly. Taking a broader view, the audiophile world is drowning in silver/black-boxed electronics and wood-veneered loudspeakers.… Read the full article

by Rafe Arnott

Rutherford Audio was showing some sonic svelteness at RMAF this year in Denver. The high-end distributor had curated a beautiful-sounding demo in their room at the Denver Marriott Tech Centre consisting of the heavyweight (130 lbs each) ATC SCM50ASLT three-way active loudspeakers ($32,000 USD/pair), an ATC P1 300-watt/channel power amplifier ($4,599 USD), a Vertere Acoustics Magic Groove MG-1 turntable with SG-1 tonearm, Scheu MC cartridge/Vertere Phono-1 MC/MM phono stage, and a Reference Line Burmester 111 Music Centre ($55,000 USD) acting as a music server, CD player/ripper, DAC, and analog preamplifier.… Read the full article

The new Technics 1200GR at a suggested MSRP of $2,000 USD  is a more affordable version of the 1200G announced last year.

This CES was my first.

Thing is, it just might be my last.

Consensus among fellow journalists, hi-fi manufacturers, distributors, and bricks & mortar owners is that it’s no longer a good fit for home audio, and attendance by companies who pursue higher fidelity had dropped significantly from previous years according to long-time attendees.

massage

The pain is real.

The bruises were the color of a sunset, and spread across my upper back like a watercolor painting. I had noticed some marks first after showering on Friday morning, but by Saturday evening they were in full bloom, and I felt like I had been tattooed.

Sorry, I should back this up so I’m making sense.

I had been warned that CES would get me. Everyone who heard I was going to Vegas, and that it was also my first time at the Consumer Electronics Show had advice  for me.… Read the full article

Burmester Reference Demo in Vancouver

By | September 24th, 2016|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , |

Alright, alright… c’mon already,” I hear you say, half-groaning as you read the title of this post, and surmise (correctly) that this is another demo review of a ne plus ultra system from a European hi-fi manufacturer. Listen, I can’t help myself, and can you blame me?

Edward Ku at Element Acoustics in Vancouver, B.C. was holding court at his über hip showroom, only this time instead of Tidal Audio from Germany, it was Burmester in the house, and his cohort Jeffrey Tseng was like a man possessed while describing to attendees what they might notice during some of the analog playback sessions he was overseeing for Ku.… Read the full article
