Dr. Feickert Analogue Firebird Turntable | Review

By | September 18th, 2019|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |

The Dr. Feickert Analogue Firebird turntable signifies a lot of firsts in my vinyl-loving life. It’s the first turntable I’ve used that accommodates two tonearms, and lo and behold I’ve got two tonearm and cartridge combos mounted on it right now. It’s the first turntable I’ve used that has more than one motor to spin the platter. (It has three, in fact.)

Finally, it might be the heaviest turntable I’ve ever reviewed. I’ve had seat time with many, many high-mass turntable designs but I’ve never set one up in my home, all by myself.… Read the full article

The Secret Is Out: Olympica Nova 1

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I had a top-secret pair of speakers in the house from Sonus Faber (details here). I couldn’t say they were Sonus Faber, of course. I was asked to take a couple of photos of my system, and I had to shoot around the mystery speakers.… Read the full article

Von Schweikert Audio, Esoteric, MasterBuilt | T.H.E. Show 2019

By | June 21st, 2019|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

You should have heard the rumors flying around T.H.E. Show 2019 about VAC and Von Schweikert Audio. What, they’re not showing together? Did something happen between these two brands? Was there a falling out? Audiophiles have been treated to the synergy between these two brands at high-end audio shows over the last year or so, and there was an obvious reason why they’ve been snagging Best Sound at Show Awards the entire time. Every time I visit their rooms, I have to give them such accolades since they’ve obviously perfected the art of doing those Big, Big Rooms.… Read the full article

CAF 2018: Marc’s Wrap-Up

By | December 22nd, 2018|Categories: Audio Federation, Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

The last couple of months have been a blur. Just days after I joined the team at Part-Time Audiophile and The Occasional, I was off to Denver to cover the 2018 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. Then, just a few weeks later, I was driving down to Rockville, Maryland to cover the 2018 Capital Audiofest. Then I’d been home about a week before I headed out to San Diego to cover the debut of the Dan D’Agostino Relentless monoblock amplifiers and YG Acoustics Sonja XV speakers at Alma Audio.… Read the full article

RMAF 2018: Old Forge Studio and The Times They Are a-Changin’

By | October 16th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , |

I haven’t written a show report in nearly eight years, so it makes sense to start it off with a room at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest that has a definite story behind it, a deep meaning, particularly for me.

I didn’t know if it was proper for me to cover David Cope’s room at RMAF, since up until a couple of months ago I was the US importer for New Zealand audio brands PureAudio and The Wand (David recently took on both lines for his Mystic, Connecticut-based Old Forge Studio).… Read the full article
