SVS 3000 Series Launches | Announcement

By | November 14th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , |

Looks like SVS, everyone’s favorite skull-shaker, has a brand new line of subwoofers — just in time for scaring off the family inviting the family over for your holiday meals. At the very least, holiday movies and sports just got a little more threatening, low, and menacing. Might even be time to queue up Pitch Black, that most perfect of Christmas Eve stories! Ahh, I can practically taste the terror.

Okay, okay, I may not have fully shaken off Halloween yet — whatever.… Read the full article

Sonus Faber Electa Amator III & Gravis VI Sub – RMAF 2018

By | October 29th, 2018|Categories: Audiohead|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

Sonus Faber actually had two rooms rocking at RMAF this year. The bigger setup featured the new line-array XRT2.1Ks we covered at our visit to the NY World of McIntosh secured to a pair of the MC1.25KW monos. A very nice sounding system in its own right, but our attention was drawn even closer to the secondary room which housed an MA8000 integrated and MC80 transport to a pair of the new Electa Amator III bookshelf-style speakers.

The two-way speakers were sitting next to a new Gravis VI ($7k) sub due out in early December, but at the time of my visit wasn’t hooked up.… Read the full article

The Inch Difference

DALI’s E9F unusual 9" woofer may just offer the low bass extension you are looking for
DALI’s E9F unusual 9″ woofer may just offer the low bass extension you are looking for

If you have been dabbling long enough in your AV hobby you would have come to realise that stand-alone subwoofers usually come in sizes of 8″, 10″ and 12″. It tends to get bigger (15″,16” and even bigger) as one goes up the performance scale where the usually high price keeps them out of the general affordability level of most audiophiles and home theatre buffs on a budget.… Read the full article

By | September 15th, 2018|Categories: Part-Time Audiofile|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

A study by Texas A&M found that on an average, an American spends 38 plus hours per year waiting in traffic.  For me, its music that gets me through the grind and takes me to my happy place.

Unfortunatel,y most car audio systems, and even the fancy overpriced audio upgrades from various car manufacturers are disappointing.  Very few, if any car audio systems get me excited (except for the B&W system in the Volvo XC90).

Everything changed when I bumped into Jon Whitledge and stepped into his Magic Bus.… Read the full article
