It went out into space on September 5, 1977 and is now the farthest man-made object from our planet. I’m talking about the Voyager spacecraft, which is now in interstellar space, and contains something extremely unique not only in the annals of audiophile history, but in human history too. Affixed to the Voyager spacecraft, in an attempt to communicate with intelligent, extraterrestrial beings is the so-called Golden Record. Contained on this metal LP was as then-U.S. President Jimmy Carter said “… a present from a small, distant world, a token of our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts and our feelings.… Read the full article
Reports from the Toronto Audio Video Entertainment Show by Richard Mak
PART – I
The Toronto Audio & Video Entertainment Show (TAVES), which originally began at the King Edward Hotel in 2011, is by all account tremendously successful. Thanks to the efforts of Sauve Kajko (President, TAVES) and Simon Au (Vice-President, TAVES), Toronto has a firm position on the world map of high end audio as TAVES is currently the largest high-end audio show in Canada in size, number of exhibitors, as well as for attendees. … Read the full article
Welcome to something new we’re going to try here on PTA thanks to our friend Wynn Wong of Wynn Audio in Richmond Hill, Ontario. I’m going to be curating a new list every month featuring different categories of gear that I think you – our readers – have to hear under any circumstances you can arrange: beg, borrow, steal, drive for hours, hop a train, take a plane… you get what I’m saying. Price will not be a factor, with individual pieces on each list reflecting a spectrum of what I feel is the best.… Read the full article
A photojournal by Eric Franklin Shook
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, proving again that there is more than one way to skin a cat. Axpona is to me an ensemble interpretation of beauty, ruggedness, finesse and power; all tangled in a whirlwind of song. Who doesn’t like magic shows?
As a child I was always impressed with anybody who could pull something even remotely magical: Pulling a quarter out of my ear? Check. Naming the card I chose out of a shuffled deck? Check. I guess technically these weren’t magic, but illusions (to quote Gob from Arrested Development), but they still had the intended effect: To make me believe something very special was happening, that I was in on a secret, or part of a cool club.… Read the full article
There’s was blasting electro music, and a disco ball.
Just kidding, I’m at AXPONA in Chicago, there’s Diana Krall, and Tony Bennet. BUT, and this is a big but, there’s a lot of non-traditional music being played to my ears, and that’s incredibly refreshing from a listenig standpoint. No disrespect to either Bennet or Krall – who both have LPs I love – but they can be overplayed at audio shows, as safe bets for room organizers because that’s what audiophiles are used to hearing, and guess they’ve become somewhat expected (and somewhat mocked of late).… Read the full article
Montreal Audio Fest Video: Tidal loudspeakers with Karan Acoustics, Goldmund and Thales from Wynn Audio
Wynn Wong is a very unassuming guy, who has a big smile, quiet charm, and an infectious smile that instantly puts people at ease. Every time I checked out his room at the Salon Audio Montreal he was in animated conversation with a showgoer about some aspect of the system he’d put together to showcase the wares he represents out of his showroom near Toronto – Wynn Audio.
