Unison Research’s Max 1 loudspeakers – stylish, compact, two-way, floor standers with a front-firing bass reflex enclosure – are now available for the first time at Sydney Hi-Fi, in Castle Hill.

The Max 1s, which have been available in Australia for around two years, (and have recently been joined by the just-released Max2, see story HERE) use a dual-port front firing bass reflex cabinet. ‘This reflex-loaded configuration marries with the clever cabinet design to produce a wide, deep and entertaining sound stage with impressive detail,’ says Chris Strom, of Radiance AV, which distributes Unison Research in Australia. ‘The Max 1 is a definitive loudspeaker with full extension of low frequencies, a clear and defined midrange and natural and extended high frequencies. It is also capable of reproducing high sound levels.

The Unison Research Max 1 combines a 305mm bass/midrange driver with a high-frequency compression driver fitted with a 25mm titanium diaphragm. The nominal crossover frequency is 2kHz, with the crossover network delivering 12dB/octave slopes either side of the crossover point. Both bass reflex ports on the Unison Research Max 1 are on the front baffle to enable easier and more convenient speaker positioning in smaller rooms and the cabinet is available in either Walnut or Mahogany finishes. ‘Unison Research designed the Max 1 to be a high-efficiency system that is very easy to drive, so it presents an easy load for an amplifier,’ Strom told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine, ‘meaning it works brilliantly well with a wide variety of amplification, from low-power valve solutions through to modern solid-state and Class-D offerings.’ Available now, the Unison Research Max 1 speakers retail for $9,999 per pair (RRP).
